Minion Necro vs AoE Mobs very sad >>
Ideally you don’t want a single strategy to work 100% of the time with no thought or else the game gets boring. That’s why veterans and champions exist, and why mobs have a variety of skills. Some of which are annoying. For instance, I get more annoyance out of Harathi mobs that spam knockdown on my warrior than with AoEs on my necro.
If ALL mobs did what you’re saying, it might be cause for concern. But I see nothing wrong with SOME mobs being more difficult and requiring a different strategy to take on. For instance, bowling them over with the Golem or spiking them with Minion explosions. Or standing away from your pets and helping them spread out (this is a thing, even if you don’t realize it).
I played MM from 1-80, and still play it. Yes some mobs can potentially kill all your pets with strong AoEs if you let them. However, I don’t even play with the +50% HP trait and I never had significant issues.
I too play mm all the time, I am the tank and healer for my minions. I am Power toughness vitality, running Dagger-focus and staff, my dagger has water sigil for aoe heals and the 2nd skill on the staff you can maintain regen aoe. Traiting minions and putting minions on your utility bar is not enough to keep them alive. Seeing that most Aoes only hit 5 targets its better for it to hit a minion than you or another player. I am the tank for my minions and they serve me well.
Sometime I think there should be a guide put together for successful minion mastery. Things like using a staff with Mark of Blood and using Well of Blood as your healing skill to aid in minion longevity.
Well of Blood also gives a nice Light combo field which, when combined with a Blast finisher, is retaliation to all of your minions. AoE is a lot of fun then. Swapping a minion out for Spectral Wall lets you give your minions Chaos Armor instead, which also makes the AoE-using mobs hilarious.
Mark of Blood + the trait that gives a mark of blood on dodge = high uptime regen on your minions.
It’s not going to keep all of them alive versus heavy AOE mobs, however. Heavy AOE mobs are one of the weaknesses of minions, but it’s to be expected. Just resummon them faster than they die, as long as you have at least 1 minion of some kind up, you got a meatshield to hide behind.
i’ve just dinged lv 60 and switched to staff MM, first i was using the (minions have more health) trait but i actually switched it to the (marks are larger) trait and its quite easy to catch all the minions in the regen, the big painful AoEs still kill em, but i generally dont need to resummon them!
i disagree that we dont have any pet love, with my staff MM i’m churning through mobs!

I’ve never seen a Guardian be very successful with spamming whirl finshers. Come to think of it, I’ve only rarely seen them running around with greatswords.

They are surely have scepter and focus on their hands with staff at the back~
it takes two “2” stupid normal L54 spiders to take out all my pets with 2 AoEs………….
1st spider Aoe = All minions down to 50% (with +50% HP trait)
Minions not regenerating HP out of combat and no Heal for them either but this weak heal Well which would eliminate my Blood Fiend and give me a 30 sec cooldown.
2nd Spider = All minions dead
Ah i forgot !!
The Flesh Golem is still alive… He stood far away and did nothing at all…..
Its so sad to see how ANet treats Necromancers that want to play with Pets… i feel somehow insulted by ANet because of their ignorance for us Necros.
when i leveled in used staff 2 and well of blood, staff 2 can be used every 4¼ seconds and well of blood after a fight was a must.
but at least now the healing pet doesn’t pop like a balloon every time its sneezed on
What i like to kick off things by letting my golem charge in and walk all over the mobs which helps putting him in combat mode so to speak then hit the same target with my haunt skill that way even before the mobs can react i have time to do a well close by and hit em hard its a strategy that works well for me and might work for you aswell
