Hey all, so I’ve been messing around with a MM Necro but I can’t decide which way to build it.This is primarily for roaming in WvW btw

I’m focusing more on the Condi’s that Staff and Scepter/Dagger give me but I don’t know if I should just go Axe/x Staff with power instead of condi dmg. Would that yield more damage? I figured the more condition damage I had, the stronger Death Nova’s poison would be as well…

Oh and pay no mind to the 2 sigils of corruption, still trying to figure out which weapon set I tend to be using when I kill someone.

If you want to use conditions, I suggest going 20 into curses, and picking up terror. The added minion damage isn’t necessary, because you’re going to want to just drag fights out forever and slowly bleed them out. I’d also suggest using Geomancy or Earth sigils (depending on which you prefer), one on each set, and then have like an extra dagger with corruption that you can use to stack up, and then swap it out when you are maxed out (unless that has changed).

I have always personally disliked condi MM, however it is possible to do.

Thanks for the input!

Is terror worth it? I can only fear them in Shroud/Staff 5 (well, and when downed too) where as the 30% boost is constant

Thanks for the Sigil of Geo too, definitely putting those on

This is what I recommend, and the reason I chose this setup is for 3 main reasons:

  • You actually want them to kill the minions to proc the death nova, so increased hp isn’t going to help (I was under the impression this was a roaming build, so if not correct me),
  • also shadow fiend is pretty slow and useless on players. It’s ok for capping camps, but he spends more time chasing people than attacking usually so I swapped him out for spectral wall.
  • you have no stun break at all, and as a roamer this is not good. Reaper’s protection is a half decent stun “defense” because it is passive and they might not throw up stability before they stun you, in which case your terror will also proc.

These also have an added bonus by taking spectral wall: you now have a way to make confusion via the combo field and your staff/bone fiend and putrid explosion as well as giving protection to your minions and yourself as you kite them through it. Bone fiend can stack up confusion relatively quickly which on a full condi spec like this can eat up people pretty fast. This isn’t too far off from what I use on my wvw roamer condi MM and I can say firsthand that it works pretty good. It’s not perfect by any means but if you get comfortable enough with it you can really wreck some baddies.

I see…

Yeah, this is a roaming build. Me and my friend are going to roam our MM and see how it fares.

Instead of Spectral Wall, how would the Flesh Wurm work as a stun break? I get to at least keep another stun break and I get to keep a minion on top, but it might not be the -best-

Eh the thing about roaming is you don’t always get time to set up the fight in your favor (which is what flesh wurm requires to be effective) So yeah you could, but then you’d be losing out on protection, fear (terror if traited), and that combo field. It’s really up to you though, if you prefer flesh sock to fear wall, go for it. He does good damage anyway and it has the stun break you need, so imo it would be a fair tradeoff. I’ve just found him to be really clunky in roaming.

Well, I’ll try them both out and see how they work. I’ll probably report back here with which one I prefer.
