I play ONLY necro since I switched from warrior about a year ago. I have played it a fair bit in pve, pvp and wvw.

Here are my ideas to nerf the necro (presuming other classes get nerfs to their immunities/etc). These are just rough ideas and I was wondering what people’s feedback was. This is generally from a pvp perspective so some of these changes would have to be pvp only. So please bare that in mind.

Traits
Dhuumfire – Make it inflict 4 seconds of 2 stacks of torment on critical hit.

Weakening Shroud – Increase icd to 25 seconds

Training of the maser – reduce damage buff to 20% (from 30%)

Flesh of the master – reduce health buff to 30% (from 50%)

Last gasp becomes a master trait in place of the deleted “master of terror”

Terror – base damage reduced by 75% but merged with master of terror (so fear lasts longer) – move to grandmaster and move lingering curse down.

New 15 point soul reaping trait – gain 5 seconds of switfness when you enter death shroud

Result = more mobility, more control, way less damage, make sure minions are never viable in pvp (at a high level).

Skills

Lich form – reduce the auto attack damage by 30%

Reduce durations of conditions on all 3 stages of scepter auto attack by around 30% but buff base damage by 10%

Signet of spite – remove poison and 1 bleed

Signet of undeath – reduce cast time to 2 seconds

Overall result = less requirement to run 30-20-x-x-x which is BORING after the first month (any other build is just worse). More fun. Lower damage.

Nerf the hell out of the only decent skill on the only half decent elite that power Necros get access to?

I really don’t agree with that.

People are complaining about condition Necros – when was the last time you heard anyone complain about the overpowered DPS on the Necro axe.. doesn’t happen. Axe 1 is rubbish and landing the full Axe 2 chain in WvW never happens.

80 Necro (5), 80 Guard (4), 80 Mesmer (3)
80 Ranger (3), 80 Warrior (3), 80 Thief (3)
80 Ele (2), 80 Engi (3), 80 Rev (2)

Why? They only complaint you here is about Condi necro burst. I find that complaint to be a bit of a joke when compares to an engi or mes. Who can do pretty much the same thing.

you do know that any decent group be it wvw or spvp know how to shut us down. Its easy to. Focus the necro. We have a very limited tool set to mitigate a focus fire.


It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!

whoa whoa whoa… would really really really hate this

… and id hate this as a replacement (nice as an optional trait… but with warhorn and spectral walk i already have perma swiftness in wvw… making it a redundant trait)

make sure minions are never viable in pvp (at a high level).

killing build diversity? always healthy.

would be extremely bad in pve (where lich form is already useless) and wvw… and (granted my spvp experience is far less than the other two aspects) ive never had a problem with lich form users

Wow, you should work on ArenaNet, those nerfs are so stupid I think they would love them

But I think a better way to nerf necros would be giving away some kind of scrolls to turn our necros into a different profession :P

Why fix the Necromancer for free when we can charge $$$ for the Revenant

Honestly, I don’t know what to make of this post.

Getting rid of Dhuumfire is fine. Almost everyone agrees with this.

I laughed at nerfing MM. No on uses this build outside of a few in PvP so the idea should be to make it more attractive to promote build diversity not to make it more useless than it already is. If you nerfed those traits, you might as well add new trait “Immoral Summons”: Summoned minions attack necromancer because kitten you that’s why.

The new swiftness trait is redundant with Speed of Shadows already in the same branch.

The idea of nerfing terror’s damage by 75% is strange. It’s not that powerful and has a prerequisite for damage boost (existing conditions). The least you could do it raise the uptime from 50% to 100% to make up for it.

Moving Last Gasp to master tier is ridiculous. Engineers get an auto Elixer B at 25% as an adept trait — an ability that most necros would kill for. Elemetalists also get Armor of Earth in the adept tier.

Lich Form is only beneficial to glass cannons. Why take this away from them? It’s not like the build is particularly great to begin with for PvP or WvW.

Your changes have made Signet of Spite do basically no damage and one less condition to protect bleed stacks. Useless.

Not sure why you want to reduce the uptime on the scepter 1. The duration is pretty reasonable in comparison to what other classes get for spamming 1.

Basically, I don’t see how any of this promotes “fun”. It’s an across-the-board nerf without any improvements to balance the class or promote build diversity. And the idea that you’ve improved control is curious when all you’ve done is make the fear duration increase 10 points more. That’s less accessibility.

Either you know something about necros that others don’t or you really don’t understand the other classes or you’re simply a trolling warrior.

No love for the condi necro, even with a healthy dose of toughness we’re still as squishy as a rotten tomato. While we can do a lot of damage with conditions, especially in PvE where enemies don’t dodge or shed conditions very well, in WvW, conditions are more of a crowd control to break up zergs, get rid of NPC archers and the such and much less effective at killing. Those who die by my hand tend to either be too stubborn or too stupid to move out of the way…and there are no lack of those in WvW. That said, in WvW a couple pure condi necros are what you want protecting your keeps since they can break up a zerg beating on you gate very quickly, giving the higher survivability players a better chance to chase the zerg off. If anything we need something to restore stamina quicker and give us a bit more survivability in area like WvW and dungeons.
