I haven’t posted in a while and to be fair I haven’t done too many dungeons lately. I wanted to spell out my own reasoning for stating some of the thing in the past such as “PvE isnt fun and take no skill”. I noticed after I started saying this stuff that people dislike my pvp videos based off spite (or i just suck XD) so I thought this may help others to understand my own attitudes towards this aspect of the game.

Though I do enjoy roaming the world at times or joining random farm trains I find it difficult to enjoy dungeons for certain reasons. I think the dungeons are made very well as far as the different choice branches and random encounters and even the boss intricate fight tactics required.

Much of my difficulty is the community. I dislike the overly efficient zealots who condemn players (especially Necromancers) for trying to enjoy the dungeons rather than sticking to a meta. I have always been a bit of a rogue style of player even in pvp. I’ve tried implementing blood magic into my builds ever since I started doing pvp despite their unattractive numbers and viability. This is not because I want to be some hipster, its solely because I like diversity and a wide array of play styles.

This style of play also gave me real practical experience for learning the class as a whole and its fundamentals and I think made me an overall better pvper because of it.

Anyway, back to the dungeons.

My ideal style of pve is usually best described by relating some of the PvE games I enjoyed the most in my gaming experience such as Monster Hunter, Dark Souls, and even Shadow of the Colossus.

To me, I find the Meta or the efficient way of playing these games kinda unattractive. It’s by no means an exploit technically since people are using methods that are allowed within the rules of play itself but as such furthers my disinterest in the mode. It just means to me that the more interesting style (to me) of PvE is a choice and not fundamental of the mode itself.

Speed running and meta bullying is something I never enjoyed as a player of any game. I’m a fan of adaptability to situations that the enemy will throw at me, making my understanding and experience within my own class that much more rewarding.

I like pve to reward me for making great decisions each time I play, not making the same decisions each time; if you get what I’m saying. I like to be rewarded as a player for using on-the-fly problem solving, reaction time, threat assessment and so on.

Being bullied into a role and being restricted to doing the same recipe of actions in proper order just to complete something in a set amount of time is just not fun for me. I don’t feel like im playing anything at that point.

If others are perfectly okay with this then that’s their prerogative, I don’t have much to say to it. I am not however implying that if you do like these things that I’m a better person because of it. That if I say “PvE takes no skill, thats why I don’t like to play it” Doesn’t mean that you don’t find skill involved in it. My personal opinions of things are usually very blunt and forthright in the moment and understand how some may believe im projecting some mkittenred for anyone who plays PvE. This would be highly hypocritical of me since I am an avid player of stand-alone games or PvE only games.

Anyways.

Impressive and heart-felt post, Thedevice.

Here are my PvE issues, fwiw.
Aggro tables are off and need rebalancing for threat level.
AI is not aggressive enough and does not respond actively enough to skill types.
Boon generators are not punished like condi generators.
Mobility skills are easily abused for skipping.
Combinations are too simple and too unimportant.
Strategic play is downplayed or easily learned.

I believe dungeons themselves operate fine as they are, I am just waiting for content that you CAN’T run zerk. I would love to see a 25% damage increase (direct and conditions) for mobs and also a way for them to reveal you in stealth. Cut the skipping bs, and make fights challenging enough you can’t burst everything down while stacking in a corner. Make mobs hit hard enough you actually consider throwing some vit/tough/healing in the mix

It seems (to me atleast) that it is a commen misunderstanding, that harder hitting mobs will result in players going for more vita/tough/healing. This is however not the case, even normal mobs in lvl 50 fractals, or elites in arah will 1 shot full zerker players. And this do not make people want to bring more vita/tough, and back when fractals went all the way to lvl 100 and the mobs was hitting even harder, this to did not make people want the protection. Why? well the reason is simple, people realised that if you get 1 shot if you come on full zerk, and 1 shot if you come on full soldier, then why come on soldier? better to come full zerk and kill faster = have aegis/other blocks up in a higher procentages of the fight.

The simple thing is that a 10 sec long fight is always safer then a 1 min. long fight, shorter time to make mistakes and better uptime on aegis/distortion etc.

If you want to solve this, then the solution is not harder hitting mobs, but mobs that hit more often but less hard, if you can live after getting hit and cant use aegis/etc to protect you from all the hits, then you will start thinking of healing/protection buff/vita/though etc.

But all this was not really what the OP was talking about, so sry for changing the subject ^^
