So!

After tackling the Warrior, and the Thief for a bit I’ve decided to set my sights on a Necro. After slaving over it a bit I’m starting to think more on terms of builds, and what might be better for me in the long run.

Currently my Necro is level 37, and might be in the mid-to-late 40s to early 50s by the end of today.

Right now I’m thinking of focusing on a Spite/Curses/Blood Magic build for leveling until I unlock the last skillbook.

I love the use of Wells, and the melee capabilities of Dagger/Dagger and Dagger/Warhorn. I’ve tried out the Staff, and I really don’t like it at all, it feels far too boring, and the marks don’t seem to work on Siege-esque content.

So, at 80 what is a decent PvE centric build that utilizes Wells? Also I’m interested in any Non-staff utilizing Minion builds.

Note: Interested in PvE, and Dungeoneering only. I’m not a fan of WvW or SPvP.

Personally I like hybrid for most dungeon runs. Granted yes you will not have near as much condition damage as a pure specced condition necro, nor will you burst as hard as a warrior or thief. However, you can be decent at both.

I usually run with scepter and dagger until I notice max stacks of condition, then hit blood is power, send the bleed on me to the enemy via deathly swarm, switch to axe/focus, throw the reaper scythe to hit even more invuln, then channel my claws. I just recently hit 80 and am working on my full rampager set from CoF, but I must say I like how it works so far.

Again, thats my personal opinion. I have no idea how good hybrids are at lets say fractals etc (if anyone would like to chime in who is a more experienced dungeon necro please do!)

If you like wells you might want to consider a version of the wellmancer. Since you’re focusing on those trait lines you won’t be able to utilize the protection from the wells unfortunately, but you can maximize the benefits you get from them. I’ll throw together a quick build and let you see what you think: (if it says broken link just copy/paste it into your browser)
http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/necromancer/?5.0|8.1o.hy.d.1i.h2|7.1c.he.8.1b.h1k|1p.7i.1p.7i.1o.7i.1p.7i.1o.7i.1o.7i|1o.0.1n.0.1n.0.1c.67.1c.67.2u.d19|k26.k39.0.u28c.0|44.1|0.0.0.0.0|e

It’s the best pve calculator I could fine, since almost all the other calculators are strictly pvp. It just doesn’t include utility skills, but since you’re going wellmancer, you will be running well of suffering, well of darkness, well of power, and of course well of blood for your heal. Elite will most likely be lich form.

Use will be: well of suffering for your main power/damage well, well of darkness for aoe blind and freeze when you need some good cc or blind for defense, and well of power as a powerful condition removal. Counters to the build are massive conditions, since well of power only lasts so long, but if that becomes an issue, just use feast of corruption as your heal instead and swap well of power for well of corruption for some extra damage. This isn’t perfect and if I spent a lot more time tweaking it I could prob get it more efficient, but it gives you a starting point so see how it works out for you. Also you can play around with the weapon sets to your liking, I only put in the weapons I use when I run a non-staff wellmancer. This build is for pve only, so it’s right up your alley.
