With the introduction of Chronomancers it appears that necros are just a poor mans mesmer…

They now have 2 health bars via their f5 skill, but it also resets their CD’s, they maintain use of block, mobility, invuln, vigor, and stealth.

Their new wells are better than necro wells, they can apply confusion and torment 10x better than necro, but maintain the ability to apply bleed like a necro.

Plus they get obsene amounts of projectile reflect, the new alacrity effect, and access to quickness…

is there any reason to choose necro over mesmer now? It seems that mesmer does everything a necro does, but better and with more stuff added on top…

You have no idea what the necro elite spec is going to be. Stop with the sky is falling kitten till we know what all classes are getting and till we know the full set of changes that are coming to skills and the actual numbers of all skills in HOT.

This post is very chicken little esque.

Mesmers still don’t seem to remove condis well. Their wells are better? That support well sounds ok but anyone who uses wells knows it’s really hard to get people to stay in them. Plus mesmers don’t have much immob for it. They also don’t apply bleeds like we do. They an spike some bleeds, but not maintain them like we can.

Lastly comparing their new specialization changes to our core class is just silly.

Relax until we get our specialization, I’d prefer not to deal with meltdowns every week because of another specialization.

Their second health bar is not similar but definitely a better one.

I keep seeing this…traited glamours were more powerful than wells they nerfed them to give necro a spot the WvW meta used to be GWEM.

Now? Yes later maybe not if we can’t get them to stop holding the class back and remove the second HP part of DS. Necro still has better boon/condi manipulation then mesmer but that will soon go to revenant. Changes/improvements can still happen not will yet.

Every time a new class/specialisation is unveiled, there is always the inevitable whiny posts about how OP it is, or how it makes xyz obsolete.

It happened with every class reveal prior to release, it happened when the Revenant was revealed and now it is happening with the Chronomancer.

Seriously, just get over yourself and wait for the Necro specialisation.

its same when they give first torment to necromancer and then give better torment to others. mesmer scepter auto torment attack, warrior offhand sword, thief pistol/dagger what unique necromancer have when mesmer take torment and now wells revenant use conditions better only thing we have left is punching back DS and mindless chunk of meats and blood magic that no one use. im little sceptic about elite specialization and how it change necromancer.

How do they have a second health bar? Their shatter resets where they were at when the shatter started after it’s over. It’s not a full heal, just brings them back to where they were before. There’s only so much they can do in that time. Don’t want their health to reset? Then you can probably not attack them during the shatter.

Anet sold it well but don’t get carried away.

Their wells actually seem significantly worse than ours for non-PvE. They are going to be long CD and a lot of the power will be tied into the very telegraphed end of the skill, meaning enemies will almost never be inside when they end.

That said, with a 3 second duration, they don’t have quite as much reaction time.

Then there’s the well that is on the video. Looks like it pulses shadowsteps to its center. Good luck escaping that. Unless, you know, you’re any class but a Necro.

I don’t mind sharing a skill type like wells but sharing a specific skill like spectral walk is just….. i don’t approve.

Couldn’t watch the video, but unless it is some new kind of effect that you can’t dodge roll during all that does is draw out a single dodge, which isn’t particularly the scariest ability.

Also we don’t share Spectral Walk. Their version is infinitely better than Spectral Walk could ever hope to be, because it reverses everything that has happened to their character since its initial activation: they return to the same spot with the same endurance, HP, and CDs they had when they activated the first time. I’ll have to see the CD, and of course there are tons of ways to screw yourself over on accident, but that is really strong.

Ill hold my comments till we get the full picture but yes I am VERY CONCERNED where the necro will be after everything is said and done. Just seems a lot of other classes are getting really impactful buffs and necros are kinda in the same place. This could mean the devs feel necro is pretty close to balance but as a player I hope all the other classes and the necro buster (revenant) don’t completely leave the class on the floor. Again there are A LOT of unknowns here.

Pretty sure if that GS is going to grant necro great AOE direct damage and strong burst, all the crying necros will finally cheer up and be merry

As a necro worried about the unknown I hope so too lol :P But more then anything else hope it has a good mobility skill in there cuz looks like thats what we are going to need the most.

So the counterargument to my claims seems to be…

Well yes Necro sucks and is completely useless, but maybe we will be able to have a useful spec when they reveal our specialization…?

I don’t think they suck. I just hope the power creep of other classes don’t leave us behind. But again LOTS of unknowns there.

FYI mesmers cannot have all of what you are desribing at once, they have to decide what utilities/weapon/traitline they have to drop to play chronomancer.

They only have to drop a traitline to be chronomancer and get the F5, everything else is optional.

The well used in the video looks like it is possibly their elite well, Gravity Well. Watching it closely it does damage and pulls anything in it towards the center of the well on each pulse. Sadly this idea(pull/knockdown well) has been suggested on these forums for necros several times…only Mes got it, seems like Rev all over again.

Depends on if the mesmer is standing in the well with you. If they’re poking you from outside of it, Dark Path would get you out.

Assuming, of course, that you can actually hit with Dark Path. But a guy can dream, right?
