Necro - WvW roaming - V.4
Was going to watch this during lunch….. Thanks for using music that won’t let me watch on my phone. Thanks.
I’m surprised they haven’t increased the CD on epidemic yet, it’s such a strong force multiplier with the right team, it’s pretty hilarious.
Also perplexity will be outright disgusting if they fix the whole fear being an interrupt thing. If only they would release a new rune set that would be worth using for me, rather then having used the same set since week 1.

Just for you buddy, I enabled the mobile.

The reality is, while you can build around making it amazing, it is down right useless in a 1v1, and equally lackluster in a power build. For it to be as niche as it is, an increase in cooldown would be uncalled for. Especially given how easy it is to miss, dodge, invuln the skill right now.
Just watch in the video how many times epidemic fizzles. I would say it is easily half.
It just has good scaling. Like, extremely good scaling, with relation to your own team. Of course own it does nothing and is completely useless, but I still think 15s is too short, oh well.

Will take a look at this after I grab my food! I agree with epidemic actually dropped it recently for spectral wall as I get more uses out of that roaming around. I still love epi (probably my favorite skill in the game now) though something about watching the numbers fly makes me smile.

It is entirely a group setup skill. If you roam alone or if you roam with power build thieves/warriors/guardians/mesmers, it is situationally OKAY. If you roam with other condition players it just gets better because the odds of you getting your conditions and some of each of the additional condition based roamers off is that much higher.
The highest success rate on epidemic is if I cast it about 2 seconds after we engage a target, because any later than that and they either go down, start spam dodging, use a clear or an invulnerable skill. In a condition group, that can be a BIG epidemic. Alone it will be not so amazing, and in a power group, they will die before the epidemic goes off.
I personally agree the cooldown is too low, but since I have been using the skill since release, it would make me mega-sad-face-panda to see it changed. I advocated back when they made it no longer work on dodging/immune players to up to cooldown to 20-25 seconds, and let it hit through those skills (like it did for the first 6 months of the game).
The ease of massive condition removal still makes it not so effective against coordinated groups. In roaming 2v5 against a strong roaming group yesterday, even with some good epidemics, the shouts and personal removals made it a losing fight.
lmao @6:30 that thief was what me and my guild like to call “Thirsty” he wanted you bad actually throughout that whole fight.
Yea I agree it is super awesome when me and a few engi’s that are running that rune or mesmers running it we coordinate the confusion dump so I know who to epidemic it is so awesome.
I see you ran warhorn in the last clip did you decide which one you like better with the runes or just alternate to what you feel you want to run?

You never get focused. -__-
Shrouded Bomber
Very cool video, solid roaming with good background music. I thought Run of Perplexity didn’t apply off Fear, though? You only used a Warhorn for that last fight.

Epidemic… is pretty clearly overpowered. It’s really hard to argue that a single utility skill dealing over 100k damage isn’t absurdly powerful.
HOWEVER, the Necro’s entire skillset was designed around the assumption that Condi Necros could have Epidemic, so it’s fine in context. It’s like, if every profession had $5,000 to spend furnishing their house, the other professions spent their money pretty equally between the TV, sofa, recliner, tables, and wall art, whereas we decided we wanted a 200 inch flatscreen Plasma TV and were fine making due with used pizza boxes as end tales. A HUGE amount of our power* budget is in Epidemic, to the point where you basically can’t play a condi Necro at our full potential without it.
*Not the stat.
How to Condi Reaper on a budget
Everything I say is only in reference to PvE and WvW.

You never get focused. -__-
Yeah that comes up often when anyone watches my videos. I really do get focused from time to time, normally by angry thieves, but there are two reasons why you don’t see a lot of it.
1. In an overmatched fight 2v4, 2v5, 3v6, etc, when I do get focused hard, I will often go down like a stone. Once that happens, if my roaming buddy can’t get me up, normally the fight is a loss. Were I to post a long string of videos where we lose 2v5, it wouldn’t be nearly as interesting, but it certainly happens.
2. Spectral armor (15 in SR) makes s big difference now when getting focused, and I always start fights with a full life force bar. This makes it appear that I am not taking that much damage, but I do take quite a bit.
3. I roam with an apoc ranger. He has a pet, and sometimes spirits, that get all up and in peoples faces. The dirty little secret is that his damage output is really not that high (don’t tell him), and that he is more of a condition battery and tank. People still like to tunnel vision on the easy target, which is the ranger wizzing around in peoples faces, not the necro creepin around the edge.
4. Unless you have a lot of stability or condition removal, you aren’t going to stick on me in melee. I do lots of chill and cripple and epidemic as often as I can. The spirits that give swiftness on hit help a lot in that regard too I am just now discovering. Don’t discout the 500 hp/sec the big spirit puts out when I am smart enough to fight by it.
Very cool video, solid roaming with good background music. I thought Run of Perplexity didn’t apply off Fear, though? You only used a Warhorn for that last fight.
I mentioned it elsewhere, but I am just going to continue to run 6 for the extra 15% confusion and in protest that it doesn’t work on fear. i realize a rabid crest is better, but I will live without it.
I tried more fights with warhorn, but as sweet as that one clip was, there are a dozen more where it whiffs and does nothing.

It looks like you are proccing the 6th rune bonus in some of those earlier fights, but I’m not seeing any skills that interrupt. How are you proccing it? Or is it coming from a teammate? Perhaps this rune set has more application to Necros than I thought.
Very impressive fight to the northwest of bay where you fought off 2 groups of enemy players.

I would guess, in some of the clips a mesmer was around (more confusion) and a warrior using the perplex runes as well. The ranger uses torment runes, so no confusion there, but combo off the wall can cause some.
That being said, I have noticed strange interrupts with dagger in the mainhand. I was told that it had something to do with the immobilize, but I couldn’t reliably reproduce it. Others have said staff skill 5 can do it on occasion as well, though again, I couldn’t reproduce it.
I know on at least one occasion I managed to hit an epidemic with my 3 stacks of confusion, and then a guardian used his “save yourself” and duplicated those all back on himself about 4 times from his allies.
In either case, I enjoy the runes. They are more reliable than nightmare, and more powerful than the necromancer runes. Undead still does more damage, but only marginally so, and as you noticed in the clips, people swing wildly confusion or not, and every swing is 600 damage.
May you share your stats or gear? and traits?
Looks really interessting, I mostly play power spec right now, but I want to play something new. So if you dont mind, would be nice to know the details ^^

This is the build I was running at the time:
Except that I am using a full set of the perplexity runes or 5/6 depending on the point in the video. Also they don’t have bursting sigils in that tool yet, but that is what I am using on staff and offhand dagger.
I have tried variants that go 30/30/0/010, but find them to be lacking without the 15 point 50% stun breaker, life force generator, protection trait in SR.
I am working on a new video in the more glass 30/30 build, but it requires people to focus me less to actually succeed, though I am warming up to it again.
It would be nice if this was a unique build, but as a condition necro, you are crazy not to take 30/20/x/x/x, which leaves you few options for branching out. Minors in death magic are awful, siphon traits in blood are mediocre at best, so you can see why most everyone settles into Soul Reaping.
That was fast! Awesome, thank a lot! Your stat distribution looks pretty solid. Focusing is and will be always a problem for a nec, but thats the tradoff for dealing dmg and I’m pretty good in suriving.

You caught me when right as I logged on
I would say I can only really make the 30/30/0/0/10 work in a group setting. And even then, a group 3-5 is best. I am basically leveraging long bleeds as heavily as possible (taking hemo and lingering curses), and hoping epidemic can hit some targets with bad condition removal.
It is very much NOT a brawling build without spectral armor. I like to play a more brawler style, so it is an adjustment for me, but I am getting used to it.
tried it out some hours in various group size, basically same armor and traits, just little bit more balanced ascended stuff. I really like to be able to combine confusion with burning and all those other conditions we already spam. it’s just nice to back them up with another condition and confusion is such powerfull :-)
I also agree that such a build only plays out in small scale, so targets can be spiked and epedemic timed. still prefere pure power for bigger scale, since there is too much condition fluctuation for pure condition builds. but since anet is not able to fix the rune of the strength for nearly a year now, i will play around with this one. I bet perplexity will get a “fix” very soon ^^
ps: any chance you can give me a hint/traits for the ranger build? i have a friend playing very casually, he has no plan from his class and i think as a tank you cannot do that much wrong – from the video it seems very tanky ^^

That ranger trolls my posts and the necro forums all the time, I am sure he will stop in to give you the build…. I think he was running the spirit version for most of the video, which is I would say easier to run, though much more dangerous as you lack the stun break and condition removals.
Why do I have to be trolling? I could be providing valuable informa….. Lol nm

That’s my normal build, I’ve changed a few things but that’s a good start.
Oh and full apothecary gear or settlers

I see you two having fun ^^
Thanks for that! Expected 30 in nature, never would have thought of this! I like the idea of a pet focused build. Pet system is so awesome, always feel sad seeing my dumb minons… :/
Ps: What pets do you suggest?

Birds for the bleeding, Owl and Eagle are the most common.
My bad, was thinking of another condition ranger build. :/

Actually he exclusively uses Lizards and has recently started using the “wolf/dog” for the AOE fear, but is somewhat put-off by unresponsive of that skill (think Haunt).
I don’t know the logic behind lizards except that they were massively powerful at one point, and their active is really good when/if it hits something. I have never seen him use a bird, and he at once point explained it, but I don’t remember the reasoning.
Great video!! first off way to find TC groups under 20 to go after, and 2nd OMG they suck. I think you and your buddy could probably 2v10 or more
