Necro and Flesh Wurm
Only times I use flesh wurm is during a fight club dual.
Normal this will be the first thing I cast as most people didnt realize that it would work like a portal so they would just leave it alone for most of the fight.
in regular WvW I would never use it as the cast time is way too long and by the time I get the cast off I might be over halfway to where i placed it.
I usually try to cast it pre-fight if possible, unless I forget then I’m stumbling to try to get it placed mid fight, which is awkward at best. In WvW I’ll usually just leave it on the wall of the nearest building unless I’m way out in the middle of nowhere. Then I’ll just find a nice high spot to slap it on and call it good. I really don’t use it for much damage, and definitely not for the unreliable poison it does, but it is an excellent stun break and quick teleport, even if you’re out of range it usually moves you a little bit.
~Surrender fiend and you will get an easy death
~I could promise you the same…but it would be a lie…
But for me it seems so weird that a class that has like zero disengage abilities needs to first spawn a wurm before entering a fight “almost” every time and then use it as an escape.
But other than that, how much life does the wurm have?
As a stun break, I rather take the signet of plague, because it has three purpose
- Condition removal from allies
- “If” having alot of condition and no need for healing you can use them on enemies like corrupted boons
- Stun break
Only downfall is that it can be blocked.
Flesh Wurm portal has a lot of limitations but, if you need to take or hold an area, Flesh Wurm is a lot like Bone Fiend with its ranged attack. I use both of those minions for Tequatl because I can pop them in a relatively safe place and their ranged auto-attack really adds substantial damage. The Wurm’s vitality was improved recently so it does not die when people frown at it. Adding Flesh of the Master and Training of the Master also help durability and damage.
As a dedicated MM that mainly sticks to PvE, I generally don’t even bother summoning the Flesh Wurm except for fights involving Vets, Champs or lots of normal mobs. I then summon it a little back from the main fight before entering combat. I use it both to boost my damage (from observation, it deals more damage than the Shadow Fiend per hit, but attacks much less frequently), and as a meatshield (hide behind it).
The Flesh Wurm has more base HP than any other minion except the Flesh Golem and the Blood Fiend, so if you also have those two minions with you, you can generally resummon one of them every time another dies, so you’re never without a meat shield (and that’s not counting your other two supporting minions). I’ve managed to solo some Champions this way simply because the Champion can’t kill all my minions before I can resummon them again.
In wvwvw? Always! Its only somewhat reliable escape utility we got. Mostly precast it cause of its long cast time, but it can be effectively used while running away to teleport in different direction than you are running to, people dont expect necro to teleport so at first they will think what happened and only then look to which direction you ported.
The cast time must be lowered or removed tho, if it would be lower then you could use it mid fight as extra dmg and not only abuse it as blink.
Alright, this has open up my mind about flesh wurm. But yeah lower the casting time would probably increase its use more often.
Good thing they buffed its hp, was afraid that it would get 1 shotted from AoE’s if you are using it in mid fight or even pre fight.
Its a good utility. The thing I dont like and why I stopped using it, is because its dispelled as soon as you use an elite.

It is one of my favourite skills! (Stun break, teleport, life force) When I was using Spectral build (pre-patch) it never left my bar. Post patch I switched to Wells (unrelated) and unfortunately don’t have room for it anymore. I bring it out for Lupi. If I run Spectral again I will likely take it back for the mobility and short cooldown stunbreak.
I use it instead of Signet of the Locust in WvW when I’m fighting near a tower. I’ll drop it in the tower directly behind where the “in” portal is, giving me a 1200 unit blink directly towards the nearest safe spot.
How to Condi Reaper on a budget
Everything I say is only in reference to PvE and WvW.
Not sure if people have made it explicit enough: it will attempt to move you 1,200 units towards the Wurm, even if the Wurm is way beyond that range. You could be 4,000 units from the Wurm and still blink towards it. (Terrain glitches can mess up your plans, though.)
I use flesh wurm all the time. I use it so much that I gave him a name. His name is Karl.
Karl goes up before I engage any enemy. Karl gets used a lot to juke enemies, escape bad situations, avoid an incoming burst, and as a stun breaker. I try to fight away from Karl as much as possible so the enemy doesn’t see where I teleport too. Sometimes I even use Karl to catch people trying to run away from me.
I don’t really know what I’d replace Karl with. Hes pretty much glued to my utility bar in PVP. The ability to get out of a bad situation or focus fire train is just to good to let go IMO.
I have to be proactive about using Karl if I get caught in a fight without having him up. I’ll typically try to place him behind things or up on ledges (teleport functions like shadowstep and can get you up on certain higher elevations) during a fight so people don’t see where I’ve teleported too if I need it.
