Necro and Orr temples zerg issues
That sounds like a bug, if true. Usually, it only takes a small amount of damage or support in an event to qualify for a chest, at which point you have equal chances with other players because chests are (were?) not affected by magic find.
Landing a few attacks should get you a bronze at the least and a chest when the boss goes down. Not landing anything may disqualify you, though. I recommend investigating this a bit more before posting some evidence for the dev’s to review.
Not profession specific, but I do find that projectile speed and rate of fire tend to be more important than actual damage. When zerging events with my engineer I’ll use my aoe grenades for tagging but when a champ comes up I switch to my rifle and burst all my toolbelt. Fast rate of fire and fast projectile mean I can hit the champ before he goes down. My grenades just fly too slowly.
With necro, when a champ comes up I swap to axe and dish out #1 & #2 because it’s fast. More hits on target seems to get me better results. Despite it hitting hard, Life Blast is just too slow.

Genearally the only time I miss credit is if the champ dies within 3-5 seconds or less from when I tag. It is especially noticable if you tag it RIGHT before it dies. I have in some cases gotten in 3-4 hits, and still not gotten credit because of that almost-dead situation.
I play conditions so do almost no direct damage, but that doesn’t seem to matter much. The factor seems to be when you tag it, and how long it is after that until it dies.
There is a certain amount of lag in the game; especially with a zerg. You may tag the mob locally but the server has to process that before confirming the damage. If the mob dies on the server before your damage is processed and assigned to you, you may have missed it. That does happen to me on occasion, too, but I just write it off.
Have played only a couple hours (mostly to choose new stats for MF gear) in the last week due to RL but will jump back in for a few hours this weekend and explore the changes.
Carrion might be the prob.
Conditions are pretty terrible in large PvE groups due to everyone fighting for condition stacks as well as short burst time to do enough damage to get credit.
Bit of power + precision gear might help. Crit damage on top won’t hurt either.
You could try using some minions too, I know they will spend most the time dead in big groups, and don’t exactly AoE… But there damage dose count towards yours.
We only really do ‘decent’ damage in PvE with Vuln stacks & people feeding us might.
The games built around tPvP, and the necro doesn’t get much love in PvE.
Another frustration is dragons/world boss’s & marks not triggering.
As well as the latest bug of Putrid Mark not removing condi from Alli, combined with can’t res in DS/Litch/Plauge making us very unhelpful to others.
Add on top of that, the change to DS not letting us use it as a ‘block’ were totally behind other class’s after around 30sec with avoiding damage too. (As we have no Vigor/Block/Invul/etc)
I’ve found 30/10/0/0/30 with Soldier’s gear, Berserker’s weaps/accessory’s is about our best for PvE group play.
Who know’s, in a years time, the dev’s might decide were not just a tPvP condi-burst glass cannon.
