Necro build/help
1) Unless you find a Raid group that isn’t full of stingy people who seek perfection, Necros typically aren’t ‘accepted’ into Raids (and I hear even higher level Fractals but I’m not sure so don’t quote me on that). As far as what build, it comes down to your playstyle. If you’re more into instant damage/bursting your target and moving quickly, Power Reaper is your best bet but if you prefer to play it safely and enjoy messing around with Conditions and melting health bars instead of deleting them, Condi Necro is the way to go. I’m a Power Reaper because I’m extremely aggressive, but because of that I’m incredibly fragile and have to be careful when fighting Champions and big Group Event Bosses.
- Power: Dagger/Warhorn (or Focus) + GS
- Condi: Scepter/Dagger (or Focus) + Staff
There are also Hybrid builds you could look into but those got so confusing to me and the playstyle for those builds was way different from mine and even a bit weird, not to mention those builds tend to be rare (from what I’ve experienced) and I’ve yet to find a Hybrid-player with a ‘strong’ build.
2) Zerker, Valkyrie and/or the Zerkerie (Valk + Zerk Trinkets) are common in PvE because of the raw power they provide and how relatively easy it is to kill PvE mobs. It’s also one of the easiest builds to make, whereas crafting Viper’s (or anything with 4 stats) takes more time and effort since you have to get the proper Insignia as well. If you do go Viper’s, then you’re most likely looking into being a Condi Necro, which there are already quite a few builds and guides on (I’m a Power Reaper like I said so I’m not help to you there).
3) It doesn’t matter if you go PvP or PvE for the PvE gear, both ways will get you the same thing in the end. The real question is: which side do you enjoy more? I’m a PvEr, PvP in many MMOs has soured my view on PvP so I just stay away from that side in general, so again sorry but I’m no help to you on that topic.

Yes I understand that part about the raids, but necro seems kinda fun so I’ll gear it up and maybe in the future it’ll be more viable.
Ah I thought it was something like sceptre/dagger & warhorn for the condi build (at least from a guide I looked at, updated like 2 mnths aho), you think I should get huntsman to 500 just for the warhorn? Right now I have tailor/art at 400, thinking about getting weaponsmith to 400 as well for axe/dagger
well after looking at my skills I noticed there was a trait for reaper “decimate defenses”, looks to give a lot of crit so I’m looking to just go full valkyrie . I decided to get the power set done first (exotic one anyway…), like you said viper’s will take some time, so should I just use the power set to try and craft an ascended vipers set and skip the exotic one? I’m assuming the lower level fractals can be done with a power set and they give mats for ascended.

For a condition damage build, there is only one weapon set that makes much sense: scepter/dagger. Scepter is the only significant source of condition damage in Necromancer’s toolbox. Dagger has both a condition transfer, which is extremely valuable if you use corruption utilities, and a boon corruption of its own.
Lingering Curse extends base bleed duration. From there, equipment with expertise like Viper’s (and Giver’s weapons), along with sigils, runes, food like pizza, and toxic focusing crystals will get you capped at double-duration (base + 100%).
Whether you need equipment for a condition damage build, or not, it is good to have one to switch to.
Contrary to what many assume, you do not exactly need Viper’s armor but it does help to get to 100% duration. The armor, itself, gives something like 20%. The rest comes from other sources so you can wear Carrion, Sinister, Dire, whatever, and still get close to the duration cap.
Food and toxic focusing crystals get you 30%, which is more than ascended Viper’s armor.
Rune of the Krait gives you 45% bleed duration where most of your dps comes from
Superior Sigil of Agony is 20% also extends bleed duration
Superior Sigil of Malice is 10%
These things, alone, will get you to the cap without spending a single silver on black diamonds.
Even a pair of single-handed Giver’s weapons with a Superior Sigil of Malice add 30%, though the Giver’s weapons sacrifice stat’s for the potent duration increase (10% duration vs. about 5% for a one-handed ascended Viper’s.)

Anchoku is more knowledgable when it comes to Condi Necros than I am, since I specialize in Power Reaper. So for any questions concerning Condition Builds, I’d suggest talking with him/her.
Necro is my favorite and, honestly, the only class I play. I’ve tried Thief and Revenant, but I always end up back with my Necro. So I feel you there, I’ll take my Power Reaper with anyone that’s willing to take me or I’ll just get some of my irl buds online to lend me a hand if I need help with Raids or whatever. There are people out there willing to just have a good time instead of trying to be some Elitist ‘tryhard’ jerk. As long as you love the class, you can make it viable in any situation (but obviously not ‘better’ than the alternatives).
If you intend to go Power Reaper instead, I suggest giving Brazil over on YouTube a look. He’s come up with a really good Power Reaper build that’s perfect for those looking to be more tanky while still dishing out the hurt. My build is here:
I’m more of a glass-cannon Power Reaper focusing on burst and getting my target to that 50% health mark as quickly as possible. As such I’m far more squishy but my fights tend to be more fast-paced and ‘skill’ reliant. I haven’t done Raids or Fractals yet, since I’m currently finishing up my Exotic set first.
In response to your question about ‘Exotic’ or ‘Ascended’, I’d say decide on what type of build you want to run or whichever playstyle you enjoy the most and go with the Exotic set for that first. Reason being is you save gold (buying a Power set only to work towards an Ascended Condi set plays against your desired strengths, which means you’ll probably wind up switching at one point since Ascended gear isn’t really something you can get immediately) and you get to master your playstyle while farming for the ‘best’ gear. If you go Power for farming, get your Condi Ascended and find out it’s not for you, well who just wasted all of their time and materials? Exotics are fairly cheap, great way to test out playstyles and builds before investing in the more powerful/harder to get gear. So if you’re interested in Power Reaper, I gave you my build as a suggestion/reference and I also suggest you look into Brazil as well. If you’re into Condi Necro I’d suggest talking with Anchoku more and pursue that route. Hopefully Necros actually become wanted in the future again but don’t let that deter you from playing your way. We ARE the selfish class after all, right? xD

ah okay well I prefer having a clear-cut goal for the gear so I’ll try and get viper’s armour and weapons, as for the trinkets should I be going for viper’s on them as well or sinister?
In my opinion, you do not need Viper’s to have a decent condition duration build so do not think 1000 gold will change a condi build from bad to good. It will just make it a bit better so you can use other runes and sigils but still not meta.
You will get about 14% duration from exotic trinkets and 13% from exotic armor.
Ascended armor increases duration by about 1% over exotic while ascended trinkets increase almost 5% to just under 19%.
Investigate the cost of exotic versus ascended before crafting or buying Viper’s and compare it to other sources of duration, unless you have plenty of time and gold. The recipes require more expensive components.
Exotic Carrion equipment with consumables, runes and sigils is a good way to get into a condition damage build for at expense. Sinister is a glassier build for higher dps.
Keep also in mind that all condition damage builds have less sustain and variety than power builds because LF generation is slower and you get fewer defensive CC skills.
There is also a way to play power, yet still use condition duration. This is an old idea from back at game release. Feel free to try it in world events. Start with your favorite power build, eat pizza and use a toxic focusing crystal, then slot Epidemic instead of a normal utility. Proc off a boss with other players’ conditions and watch the add’s melt. Make, or buy, a couple of exotic Giver’s weapons and add Malice for another 30% (60% w/consumables).
That is 60% condition duration on, for example, a berserker-strength shout Reaper for a weapon swap and one utility. Purists and min-maxers may not like it but for PvE events it works as well as anyone really needs.
