These are a few things about necromancers that I think need to be addressed in order to enhance the way we can tactically use our class.

First of all, I absolutely hate how in deathshroud, we are unable to see the cooldowns on our heal skill and utility skills. Since deathshroud can be used to soak up damage while we wait for our heal to come back, I don’t see why the 6-10 skills can’t be displayed in a grayed out way to show cooldown times but obviously prevent their use. The only counterargument would be if additional DS skills were added later on that would use those slots, which seems highly unlikely.

Secondly, this has been mentioned many times in other areas. Builds that don’t use MH dagger or soul marks struggle with building life force in a reasonable manner. Feast of corruption and ghastly claws aren’t enough to “sustain” a necro in a 1v1 or god forbid 1vx situation. I would suggest that the scepter and axe auto attacks have LF generation capability as well. Passive out of combat generation would be nice as well, but thats a non-issue in WvW groups, its just that smaller group pvp is where lack of life force can really screw the necro over, since LF is harder to build in a usable amount than say a warrior’s adrenaline.

Minions AI blah blah blah.

If anyone else has other ideas of how to make life more convenient for necros, feel free to post it here. Not necessarily in terms of how the class is balanced compared to others, but in terms of how details in its mechanics could be tweaked to make the necromancer a more effective class to use, especially strategically or reactively.

1) Yes, 100% agreed.

2) Kinda. Axe needs a full rework of everything except 3, LF generation isn’t so much an issue as the entire set is bad. Scepter AA is great already, sustain on top would be insane. Just make feast have a base LF generation with the scaling on top, maybe have 2 do a little as well.

Passive LF generation will never happen and I’m happy it won’t.

3) AI fix yes, also have them not attack unless I do (remove the aggro response to me/them being attacked).

General bug fixes would be nice, and there are a number of basic things:
Reduce aftercast of Haunt from 2s to 1/2 or 3/4s
Make Rigor Mortis an AA reset
Remove cast of Charge but give it a noticeable aftercast animation just before he charges for 1/2s (so he roars or does a noticeable windup like a bull would in a cartoon)
Putrid Explosion causes the minions to glow and jump towards the target

There are other things, but I have a reputation to uphold.

I agree with all the points you listed and would like to include the addition of DS stomping/res which imo is reasonable since we are lacking in reliable anti CC compared to other classes. It can still be done by exploiting which has been around for awhile and they’ve done nothing about it. Might as well simplify things and just include it into the mechanic.

If they ever do decide to rework Axe it would be nice if they added cleave of some kind. Since I mostly stick to Scepter/Staff condition builds its not a big issue for me. We can still make due even with our slow LF buildup, but it could really use some improvements. I think an easy fix would be to be to just add some low LF generation on the Scepter/Axe auto (2-4% would probably be good enough).

I still don’t see any of these changes happening though since Anet is only really concerned about maintaining overall game balance and not improving convenience. Necros also aren’t that popular so even if they were to make changes we’d most likely be bottom of the list.

I still don’t see any of these changes happening though since Anet is only really concerned about maintaining overall game balance and not improving convenience. Necros also aren’t that popular so even if they were to make changes we’d most likely be bottom of the list.

To be fair to Anet they have made some QoL improvements for us already, DS 5, the new LF/HP system they used. And also Necromancer is I believe 3rd on the CDI list, so they will get to us eventually (after Ele).

Another thing I thought of that we need is for life blasts damage to not scale with weapon damage, so we aren’t forced to run staff to max out lifeblasts in DS builds, and so that we’re not punished for using death shroud with say dagger/warhorn active.
