I think the Necromancer needs a really huge change in all aspects. All in all, the updates(bugfixes) since the beginning were useless. He can everything, but nothing right.
Why am I so drastically? It’s not because I think it’s a very underpowered class. It’s because the developers need to see: we are not satisfied and we want a change (and not in a year or two).

Think objectively about it:
Conditions, Minions, Deathshrout, Wells, Casttime – PvE, WvW, PvP

- Are bugfixes in future enough (the necromancer is good now)?

+ Or is it time to make (at least some parts of) his system completely new?

oh, i totally agree that the necromancer needs change, that’s what i’ve been thinking for a moment already, however, i don’t think we’re about to see such huge changes to classes before long sadly ^^

Forget it… not going to happen.

A-net are satisfied with the current state of the Necro.

It was made perfectly clear in the last State of the Game live-stream.

80 Necro (5), 80 Guard (4), 80 Mesmer (3)

The best we can hope for is that a new class is introduced in an expansion that better fits what the necro should be and we all just change over to it.

run the necro as if it were a warlock, not a necro, imo it plays fine when you understand that it isnt the necro from gw1. commence the flame no doubt. but thats my personal opinion, i like my necro, i have fun on my necro, the only thing i feel should be changed it a couple of the trait lines, death magic in particular, they need to take the first minor trait out, its useless and causes nothing but problems in dungeons.

They need to change Trait effects and do some changes to Skills.
They need to do things like fix Minion AI, make unused traits much better, make the Death Magic traits work in non-Minion builds, reduce Well cooldowns and buff Axe auto-attack damage.

Reduce the cast time of Flesh Wurm, reduce the cooldown and/or add Stability to Spectral Armor, raise the health of Shadow Fiend and stop Epidemic and Corrupt Boons glitching out and doing nothing.

I don’t think that the overall design of the Necromancer will change much, but there’s a lot to be fixed just like with the other 7 Professions.

What Anet means by “being happy” is that whereas most Professions run the same few builds over and over Necro can go power, Condi or Hybrid and do fine as any of the 3 in PvE and low lv PvP.

Of course at tournament levels Necro isn’t much better off than the others on variety…

New trait: Crit Conditions.

All your condition ticks can crit, now you have a real reason and synergy for your rabid gear and high precision. A little bit better burst and no more waiting on 20 second bleeds to never run their course because of cleansing. Give me this over Hemophilia, or Lingering Curses, which is redundant.

to Avigrus, i know anet seems satisfied AT THE MOMENT with the current state of the necro, but that doesn’t mean we can’t hope for changes in the future, they also started “improving” death shroud (i’ll consider the new ui as a “first step”), talking about that, i think the wrong choice was to male ONE death shroud, which in its current state favors a LOT power necros, i think that it would really be possible than in some years they improve that mechanic, maybe add a “condition death shroud” that kind of stuff (seems a bit too much, but the idea is there, the game will CHANGE, as every mmo does)

also, they actually changed some traits, like the boon hate for the warrior, it’s not a foolish hope to wish for changes in necro traitlines in my opinion

There is no reason to change Necromancer at the core. There are a lot of people that are happy with the class overall; however I totally agree we all want to see the class in its “perfect” balance.

But the reality is its going to take a while to reach that high change. They have been making improvements towards there, but it takes time. However, they are doing it correctly. They are scaling things back and forward progressively, with time in between to analyze how it has affected the game.

yeah just like how they said the ele looked fine to them one sotg and the very next sotg they had a whole slough of nerfs for the ele.

ah bhawb, i agree that the core mechanic is near to fine, but maybe that’s the idea the devs have of us that needs to be changed. for example, we can’t claim to be an attrition class if we don’t have the heals or the life force generation (scepter dagger i’m aiming at you), take for example a thief with a stealth build, let’s say p/d and lot of regen ins tealth, they will make you burn CD, regen as much as they can, apply condis to you and get out of range, they fill teh attrition part better than us. but yeah that, like you said, is more of a balance problem. and i’m happy with my necro, jsut that i see all the improvments that could be made and have much hope in this class

Necromancers have the mechanics in place to play attrition: life stealing, conditions, high sustained damage, class mechanic that at its core is attrition, relative immunity to conditions. The key is for them to tune both our own mechanics, and other class/build mechanics so everything is at a balance.

The key is for them to tune both our own mechanics, and other class/build mechanics so everything is at a balance.

I would be happy if they change the “Clean a condition every 10 seconds” thing to “Clean all the conditions every 15/20 seconds” it would affect all the condition classes equally, not just the ones that apply 2, 3 types of condition and we could stack more bleeds.
