So I figured who better to ask about a duo partner with a Necro than the Necros themselves. Long story short friend and I duo a lot he is a Necro, and I’d like to know out of Ranger, Mesmer and Warrior who’s the better compliment? Of course I’ve taken into consideration my play style, but I enjoy all three classes to some degree. All 3 areas of the game will be played frequently (sPVP, WvW and PvE).

Thanks!

I play a Ranger and my wife plays Necro and it seems to work out fairly well. Necro already has a lot of survivability with the Deathshroud and while I am on the Ranger I can provide pseudo-tanking with the Greatsword and Bear, or grab the wolf for aoe fear, fern hound for the additional heal and so forth. Also with the Ranger a lot of dodge and evade with the longsword/dagger.

Granted we are only mid to high 20’s right now. The biggest problem I’ve seen so far is a lack of damage, but we win via attrition with just dodging and whittling down the targets with conditions, my pets, (usually have a wolf or fern hound for the fear/heal, and a Raven for the blind), and of course the long bow.

Honestly though, I cannot see a problem with any one of the potential classes to duo with. Each brings something unique to the table. Warrior for sheer damage/tanking and what not (depending on build of course), Mesmer with more conditions (shatters, staff, etc) and Ranger fills a niche of just bringing a little bit of everything. Depending on the pet’s you use, spec you use and weapons, yeah.

I enjoy the Necro/Ranger duo. Its not the fastest killing combo, but for just having fun, we really enjoy it. Then again, I do not like steam rolling over everything, and rather have a slight challenge to the game. Makes the game more fun for me.

If you don’t mind trying, elementalist can prove to be the best duo partner for nearly every profession. Being the best at support and giving the most combo fields (tho necros doesn’t have much finishers).
Else, hammer warrior can prove very powerful with a necro slowing down any cleansing ennemies will be able to do with all their CCs and also provide the other conditions the necro is lacking (Mostly weakness and cripple).
Minion master with a mesmer can be pretty hilarious too.

Basically, every professions works. It’s all about what spec will work well together.

I play due with my fiance. I am Necro, she is a warrior. I am toughness/Viatality/Power tank to hold aggro and do raw DPS with Dagger and she is full Glass Cannon warrior to shut down group of mobs I am holding. It works great thanks to Necro DS and High base Vitality. You may like it

Well the games doesn’t have a tank class exactly but necros can be a good bunker class and in pve most times mobs will target the highest based health and toughness player they can find. Well a lot of the time that seems to be the case atleast.

For pvp and wvwvw I like to be a condition spec so I can spread conditions with epidemic that partner can put on a single target. Most class’s can put bleeds and such much quicker then we can, but with epidemic and being specced for conditions we can spread them to 5 targets in a very nice area around the target using our stats. I personally like a thief and a engineer for this because of how quickly they can stack bleeds and other things on a single target. Warriors are very good for stacking bleeds as well.

I play my ranger with my husband’s necro, all pve currently. I tend to do SB/axe/warhorn or swap out the horn for torch sometimes and I currently use traps a great deal. I like the fire and frost traps for the extra combo potential for both of us and the warhorn buffs us. Plenty of conditions and reasonable CC since both of us can slow mobs down. I’ve found it an enjoyable combination to play. I use carrion devourer and blue moa currently (poison field or buff) but I have used a few others without problems.

Well Im going to say Warrior, because a necro can let the warrior focus on pure damage or stunlocking.

Warrior is king of in yourface melee and the necro can perma chill remove conditions from the war weakness spam the target or stacks vuln with wells or spectral wall to 20+ stacks in a few seconds.

Same concept for Thief and damage focused Guardian.

However a tanky necro + a high damage anything works great.

My win combo when i dont want to run solo in WvW is get a burst thief or warrior off my friends list and go roll full groups of people.

Just remember that in pure PvE (not WvW) you have to s Necro to some DPS or your loot and drops will be lower Game rewards most effort in killing, so if only your partner will do most dmg, or whole, you will be left with only exp.
