Q:

Hello guys, I just downloaded the game, and I read… I read a lot.

1) So I have found many different builds for pve and pvp, but I dont know which one to focus on to start off my adventure, I know there isn’t really the best one etc, but if you can mention what builds works for you the best in pve AND pvp, with the weapons etc, I would REALLY appreciate it.

2) Unfortunately, I am a very lonely person. Is necromancer going to be hard to level up solo ? I would like to be able to level and up and play.
Thanks in advance for all your thoughts and efforts. <3

1. As long as you’re in the process of leveling, don’t worry much about builds. Try everything. All weapons, all traits, all skills.
The only thing you could keep an eye on would be buying new gear on the trading post that matches your character level.

2. No class is hard to level up.
I doubt you’ll be lonely for long. People usually throw guild invites at you if you’re not wearing a guild tag yet. Or just write in map chat that you’re looking for guild.

1) 6/2/0/0/6 is probably the most “universal” build you’ll find for both. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fRAQNBIhZakjmWarpx2GOcTgLUQ/mBQLE1FQdbcGPLA-TZQaAAQZAA I didn’t include runes and sigils because those are a bit more down to your preference and not necessarily “must have only these sigils and runes”.

2) Solo leveling is very easy for Necromancer, although not necessarily the build above since you are brand new. But just throw some minions into your utility bar and let them tank damage for you.

PVE

I personally find Minion mancer to be a fun set up to play in the lower/mid levels

Summon Bone Fiend / Summon Shadow Fiend / Summon Flesh Wurm / Summon Bone minon (Mostly for exploding them lol)

I would also say – Well of suffering is a nice power to start with – good damage for low levels + vulnerability stacks / Well of darkness is a nice one for the blinds (if they stay in the field that is) and Blood is power for a nice 10 stack of might.

Staff is a nice weapon to use as it’s range + the 5th skill is a fear (Plus staff is good for lifeform gain – Death Shroud)

Axe/warhorn would be a nice combo with staff as axe gives you the DPS while giving you some range.. and warhorn for the 4th skill – daze and the 5th power – cripple + speed as well as lifeform gain when not using staff.

If not there is always dagger (offhand) – aoe bleed skill and a blind / condition transferring skill
(Not sure what dagger is like as a main hand dps at low level)

Heal wise I would say … well of blood or consume conditions – the well is an aoe heal which gives you pets some regen, but doesn’t take of conditions .. where as consume conditions will.. but not heal any of your pets.

and ofc Golem in PvE is fun and does good damage

We are heroes. This is what we do!

RIP City of Heroes

Thank you very much for the answers, may I ask;

What are necros pros and cons? Where do they shine? (pve pvp wvw) and when are they underwhelming?

Pros: Pretty strong damage, innately survivable due to massive health pool and death shroud (use it!), only class with innate access to five different conditions (including one hard CC) can operate well at almost any range.

Cons: Sustain is overall a weak point and extremely susceptible to CC. Not very forgiving against one-shot mechanics due to lack of avoidance. Group support is fairly weak.

In PvE, the necro really sucks. The things that the class is good or great at just don’t matter there. However, this is an issue with enemy design and not the necro himself. Open world PvE doesn’t matter, but in dungeons, don’t be too surprised if you get some hostility because you play a necro.

In PvP, necros are really strong against less organized teams, but fall apart almost instantly against more organized ones. In team arenas, they need to justify not only their own spot, but also the spot of someone to peel for them. They can be good, but the team needs to build around them.

In WvW, necros form a part of the zerg backbone. They are THE anti-zerg class with wells, Spectral Wall, Epidemic, Plague, and more. Well of Corruption dropped on a boon-stacking zerg can wreck them and a surprise Chilling Darkness Plague (easier than you would think to pull off) provides your allies with very strong AoE shutdown. They can also roam decently, but you have to keep a very keen eye on your surroundings as you can’t escape if things go south.

Shine in WvW zergs where you get near infinite HP because of constant LF generation, underwhelming in PvE.

How about the other side of the coin: Condi?
Can anyone suggest a condi/cc based build? Looking to cc multiple PvE enemies (fear/chill?) while loading up condi. Not the fastest way to kill, but it feels pretty awesome to kite multiple enemies while killing them. I came up with this build, but I honestly don’t know if it’s any good. Remember, this is for leveling, so no GM traits. Thoughts?
PS: MrSimpleMan, if you’re not interested in condi/cc builds, then I apologize for hijacking your thread and will not ask any more regarding this (I have another post asking about this, but idk if my post is just not picking up much interest)
