Whether this is working as intended, or broken; with the right traits necromancers can have infinite fury (i.e. if left unabated).

Traits—
15 Curses: Furious Demise (Gain fury for 5 seconds when entering Death Shroud)
30 Soul Reaping: Near to Death (Death Shroud recharges 50% faster)

Basically by tapping F1 repeatedly, I thought to create a build with constant fury. The 5s reduction to DS would sync nicely with the 5s fury gain.

However, things got interesting. For whatever reason, a necromancer can apply fury faster than it wears off. Thus creating a fury surplus. By just mashing F1 I got up to 20s of fury before I got bored.

I don’t know what the implications of this are. In 30s of F1 spamming a necro can gain around 3s of extra Fury. That is, 3s plus the next 5s application of fury.

I don’t PVP, I was just messing around in the mists trying to discover a rough pve build. So I can’t comment whether or not this would give a necro an unfair advantage in any circumstance. What are your thoughts?

Perhaps this is the mastery that is being spoken of!

But, really, that is a pretty cool find. I doubt that any good builds can be put up around it… well, on second thought, if you spec heavily into Power/Precision, then you can put out a lot of damage with Plague Blast while having a high amount of Life Force.

Plague Blast can crit for around 3k a pop…

Hey Swedishpope.9381

This is really a nice idea. You could create a build around this fact with other ….when entering Death Shroud effects.

If seen some builds in this direction but maybe not with your suggestion.

Deathly Invigoration – Heal in an area when you leave death shroud.

Furious Demise – Gain fury for 5 seconds when entering Death Shroud.
Weakening Shroud – Cast Enfeebling Blood when entering death shroud.

Death Shiver – Apply vulnerability for 10 seconds every 3 seconds to nearby enemies while in Death Shroud.
Shrouded Removal – Lose a condition when you enter death shroud.

Each point in Soul Reaping increases the Life force pool by 1%.
Foot in the Grave – Gain stability for 3 seconds when you enter death shroud.
Near to Death – Death Shroud recharges 50% faster.
Speed of Shadows – Move 15% faster while in death shroud.
Vital Persistence – Life force drains 25% slower while in death shroud.
Path of Midnight – All death shroud skills recharge 15% faster.

Spiteful Spirit – Gain retaliation for 3 seconds when entering Death Shroud.

It is a long time before the fury adds up in duration… that is a lot of time spamming F1… just keep that in mind ;-)

Sounds OP.

I am running a build like this with dagger for a few days now and with 40% base crit I have 60% crit chance all the time.
Got the idea from this necro pvp vid:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTqvqQ_akvg&feature=player_embedded^

Build in this vid:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/en/?fQUQNBIhZaESLUvbTbjhPBIVw6oHHrMzUPgfd0B;TwAA1CtoUyokQJrSOlkKtGZQxpi5IA

You also get constant weakness on the mobs around you this way and you will lose one condition with every DS pop-in

I remember people theorycrafting on GW2guru with trait builds a bit like these before release.
Stacking effects that trigger on entering or leaving Death Shroud and then constantly popping in and out of it every 5 seconds.

Of course you can do it once without the Cooldown trait, too.
Since you start off with your cooldown ready and exiting doesn’t have a cool down you can quickly enter+exit to just trigger the effects and then continue playing as normal.

Also the trait that gives you Might on every Life Blast use is very nice (at least in PvE) since it makes all your bleeds deal more damage too.

Whatever your build if you only use your Death Shroud as a panic button at 10% Health you are usually doing it wrong.
At least try to use it before taking a hit you can’t dodge, if nothing else.

Anyway yeah that Fury thing is probably unintended.
Sounds interesting.

Been running a Death Shroud / Well based build for weeks now. 10/30/0/0/30 – I pretty much sit at 80% crit all the time with 99% crit damage. Fun times.

Yea with all beserker gear (power/crit/crit dmg). In some zones when I’m down leveled precision scales well enough for me to hit 100% crit :p

It is, indeed, hilariously awesome.

Running 5/6 eagle runes and a Rata Sum rune, for max precison. I usually use a +5% crit sigil and a remove condition on crit sigil, and the stacking precision buff on my staff. I have a screenshot from before this weekend (so, outdated) with 2275 precision, 2030 power.

your beserker crit damage build while popping in and out of deathshroud for fury sounds awesome but it isn’t. I tried it thinking this was the direct damage answer to the necro, but you are so limited and better off rolling a pure damage class if you are going to try and pretend to be one. You guys can try it too but you’ll go back to conditionmancer.

2300 max crits at the end of an auto attack chain in melee range is the reason to run it? If so like I said it’s just better to roll another class. This spec is fun theorycraft until you actually try to make it your daily spec and realize your just clowning.

TBH it’s more for the utility of applying vulnerability to everything with life blast and therefore doing decent damage while also being a helpful utility to my group. It’s definitely a pve build, and I use it for mostly dungeon farming (need my Arah skull armor!)

Hold on.. Is it even viable to go with a berserker gear setup for DS, does Vit/Toughness not matter as much? How does toughness even scale with DS? I understand that Vitality = % of life pool, but would this be effective in dungeons with high damage output, high survivability thanks to countless mobs giving you a ton of life force in some dungeons..

From what I can tell, Life Force is normally 100% of your max Health. So by completely neglecting Vitality, even with the 30% extra Life Force pool from Soul Reaping you have a pretty shallow Life Force pool.

The issue I see with this build is actually building and maintaining enough Life Force to keep going in and out of DS, especially while under fire in a realistic PvP scenario, unless you are spending zero time in DS to prevent it from being drained… in which case you’re not using any of your traits for Life Blast/Plague Blast so what’s your main source of damage? Staff marks? Dagger or axe auto-attacks?

I dunno, but for some reason DS dancing doesn’t seem very sustainable to me. Maybe I’ll give it a bit of a go tonight and see what’s up.

Well, I’m not sure if that is sarcasm or not SimVanLee but, mostly error on my part I did mean to say that your actual health pool may be +/- or equal to your life force depending on how it actually works. If you had 20k HP, you pretty much have 40k it seems if you utilize DS.

the fury buff is a gimmick at most. if nothing else deters you from using the build becuase of how awkardly the 30/15 splits your points let me just say constant deathshroud swapping like that not only messes up deathshroud as a survial tool since you will be swapping it on and off for the short term buff instead of when you need it, but deathshroud also lags your skills causing a dps loss. It’s a nice gimmick for a power build necro who wants to go soldier but in the end the points don’t line up right and it will do more harm than good.

Loving you is like a battle and we both end up with scars.
