Necromancer Utility Idea: Spectral Armor
Spectral Armor is great as-is, but I definitely like the idea of more Retaliation. I think Necro could use more of the “want to be hit” traits like Retaliation and stats scaling inversely with health.
Agreed, not on the front of Spectral armor being bad or anything, but the skill just needs a bit of a buff to make it worthy of taking as an actual utility and not just a minor trait, y’know? I feel like adding retaliation would help out while keeping the thematics.
Spectral armor needs changes cause it is mandatory on most builds, and kind of broken. There was a short period of time where it granted LF per hit with an icd per target. I’d like to see it return to that, and have them add stab to it. Armor would be much better if it was:
Spectral Armor: Grant 3% LF every time you are struck by a foe with a 1 second icd per foe struck. Also gain stability and protection for 6 seconds. 6 second duration, 50 or 60 second cd.
This would be much more balanced, and help our scaling in teamfights. As for retal, I think it would be nice as well, maybe they could just make that part of the spectral trait. All spectral skills granting retal would be cool.
extra dodges, real stability, mobility skills,
burst skills, sustain, or good support. GG ANET.
Retaliation would only fit Spectral Armor for the fact… Necromancer has no real survival in general.. And it’s armor… So why not make it ‘spiky’ armor?
Improve Spiteful Spirit and axe then it shouldn’t be much of a problem having decent uptime retaliation. S.Armor is good enough.
The Dhuumfire thread
If they were going to put another boon on it I’d much rather have stability.
If SA were to get any improvement, I wouldn’t have it be retal. Buff what it is good at, not add completely irrelevant functionality.
Bhawb, the armor is based on WANTING to get hit… So why not make it more punishing… I would say regeneration instead of retaliation… But ANET hasn’t made it work in Death Shroud (Reaper Shroud). It’s just an idea. :P
If you’re going to improve utility for the class, it should probably be oriented around group utility so the class can justify having such poor DPS and still compete for group slots in competitive parties.

The armor is based around the inevitability of being hit as a Necromancer, and thus requiring some kind of defense to mitigate it. You could just as easily argue it isn’t about wanting to get hit, but accepting that you can’t avoid it and therefore need a way to not die to it.
Retaliation doesn’t bolster anything Spectral Armor currently does, which is strictly reduce incoming damage and generate Life Force. Stability/Resistance could both be argued for, changing up how the Life Force works, tuning numbers, adding other defenses are all within its scope, but retaliation makes little sense.
Actually, Spectral skills are pretty good but Armor is one of my lowest priorities.
Spectral Grasp could be more reliable, Spectral Parachute will be sorely missed, Lich needs skills and stab looked at, and a Spectral heal would be nice.
Armor and Wall seem good enough to me.

Now that you say it…. consume conditions should be the spectral heal skill. It’s a non-sense to have a skill that consume conditions on you, just to put conditions again on you after that.
I get that they wanted to nerf the skill but that way was just too much.
To not derail the topic, I agree with Bhawb on this. The skill is clearly designed to improve our defenses, retaliation doesn’t do anything to improve it. I’d say that stability is the way to go since devs always said that necros should be slow but “sticky” in a fight (which is pretty much reaper at this point).

I’d say NO to anything that increased the cooldown on Spectral Armor. I need it every time it is up in PvP.
