Necromancer abandoned?
You asked at the end if you are being too “kitteny” about this. I said yes.
Devs read everything that happens here, they just don’t post. There have been tons of bug fixes and changes overall since launch to the Necromancer (Epidemic was a fix, it never should have worked like it did at launch), I’d suggest you go through the backlog of changes if you want specifics as to what was changed.
In every aspect of the game, we are near the top. PvE we don’t have the utility of Mesmers or the raw damage of Warriors, WvW we aren’t mobile, but in zergs are absolutely amazing, and PvP is just so stale that its impossible to say what really is good or not until there is a significant community playing again. But just because one or two classes (or more specifically one or two builds, no other class can even touch our variety right now) are better in each aspect doesn’t make us bad or abandoned.
Do Necromancers need fixes still? Yes. Are we bottom of the barrel though? Far from it. So back to the original answer, yes, you are being too kitteny about it.
elaborate on what bhawb said.
yes. if you dont enjoy necro for whatever reason. play something else. there are 7 other professions.
you beat me to it bhawb.
There are very few reasons for devs to post here. They focus on banning people like me for a week when I say:
“Will necros learn how to play without spamming a single skill and relying on a single sub-par build expectation?
So long as people read these forums, then no.”
Some necros prefer to report innocent posts/opinions of those who know the class to be solid rather than try to learn how to improve personally.

not surprising, even your best posts are pretty near worthless, even worse than mine.
Abandoned isn’t the right word, more like they think we are fine, done, or in a good place. Which if you only want Necro to be a support character I guess flies. But doesn’t stand up to the sales pitch of any professions being able to perform any role.
Necro just got off a train of bug fixes, and saw more attention than any other class for quite a while. There are only a couple guys that work on bug fixes and balance changes, they have to focus fire their attention at certain things. If you want to see an abandoned class, look at the ranger.
Also, part of the epidemic nerf is supposedly going to be reverted (it’ll be unblockable again).

This pretty much. Which is unfortunate. Statements from the ANet dev team pretty much allude to them thinking there is nothing wrong with necromancers currently. Their customer base disagrees with them, however. The majority of people I speak to about necromancers thinks we’re weak as kittens and don’t bring much to a dungeon group. Our damage is mediocre compared to other classes and our support isn’t nearly as good as what other classes can bring. They also find that most of the time we’re easy kills in PvP. I find this to be true when I am on another class and end up against a necromancer. I don’t know if its because of my intimate knowledge of this class or if its because they really are weak, but I always just roll over necromancers in PvP when I am playing another class.
No one likes playing unappealing classes, and currently necromancers are tied with engineers as the least played class. Both have severe design flaws which I’m not going to go into right now. Because this game is designed around mobility, dodging, and avoiding incoming damage all together, necromancers are seen as pretty weak. Having played other classes that can easily move around the battlefield and avoid damage completely when necessary, this perception isn’t without merit.
Can a necromancer kill people in PvP? Sure. Can they survive when needed in PvE? Sure. Unfortunately the mechanics given to them are no where near as efficient, or as effective, as what other classes possess.

What build are you running?

What build are you running?
Well that depends on where I am.
tPvP: Anything and everything. I’ve tried it all and each build has its pros and cons. Can’t really say I run one thing here.
Dungeons/Fractals: Nemesis hybrid build 30/30/0/0/10
WvW: Either 20/20/10/20/0 or 0/30/20/20/0 when in zergs. 30/15/0/0/25 or 0/30/20/0/20 for roaming (I don’t roam very much on my necro any more, not very viable in my tier).
but I always just roll over necromancers in PvP when I am playing another class.
In WvW, what I do primarily, I find other Necros one of, if not the easiest, targets on my Necro even, and it disturbs me what it says about our profession. No other class outside warrior, just because they tend to be easier to kite and lack removal, do I get as many as easy kills as fellow Necros. They just have nothing to surprise me, and its not just from knowing the class. We are extremely predictable. And most don’t play nearly as ultra cautious as you must to be able to get away from bad situations.
Even bad or average players on a thief can make you work by hitting stealth when they are in trouble, a mesmer can blink and give you a few seconds to catch up, etc. An average or bad Necro, they are just little threat. Power necros that come at me seem like weak thieves without the ability to deceive, they don’t do as good damage are are so much easier to keep at distance. MM Necros their army melts before ever doing big damage, or remains standing around dumbfounded after their master is long dead.
It’s not that I’m the greatest player either, but pretty competent, and this is just what I’ve experienced in sizing up opponent classes.
The Necro is a class with a high learning curve, but the payoff for getting up on that curve just isn’t that high right now, outside of extremely coordinated team combat. That’s just not enough, nor covering enough of true play experience. Not everyone has a ‘special friend’ to watch out for them getting in trouble. Other profs can look after themselves far better without one.
