Im going to run my reaper without deathly chill trait and see how I do…to see if it really is that over the top. Will probably run dhuumfire instead on my reaper and onslaught for faster auto attackd in shroud but I digress I want to see if it is really the only condition I need to win. I feel people are too focused on it but neglect the bleed, poison, terror, and vunerability that kill you….but chill alone? Or those condi players that spam cons on a nec but cry foul when they send them back or eat them…
..a game mechanic that’s been around since beta… But chill…now we over doing it.

Chill strengh isn’t in it’s damage part so you’ll probably fair pretty well. You need to chill a foe for 16 second straight to reduce it’s health by the average amount of health point in game profession have… I mean if someone is chilled for 16 seconds straight, he obviously need to change a bit it’s build or it’s gameplay or he deserve it’s death.

No core profession should be balanced around an optional elite specialization.

chill isnt game breaking because it does damage but because reaper can keep chill on enemies about 70-80% of the game

from an enemy’s point of view thats almost a whole game with 66% speed reduction wich stacks with cripple and slow and 66% cooldown increase on all skills

People aren’t annoyed with Deathly Chill because of the damage, they’re annoyed with Chill as a debilitating condition that locks them out of the game. Chill keeps you from moving, it keeps you from using abilities, and combined with Weakness, which keeps you from dealing damage and keeps you from dodging, it makes people feel like they’re barely playing the game. Condition-based Necromancer isn’t strong because of its damage, but because of all of the control it has over people and other conditions applied to it.

The strength of chill comes in teamfights. You slow everybody and their cooldowns. The damage is not such a big issue.

You are going to (most likely) fail to make a good condition build out of reaper since reaper shroud is for the most part power, the only condition it carries is soul spiral. On top of that you are stuck with 2 minor traits for chill and little of the chill application comes with good condi damage.

Now on the chill, honestly I blame bad death breakdowns and the untransparant nature of condition damage. They make nice division by power damage per skills but for condition damage they show the damge of the condition , not making the difference between skills. So people don’t know by how much skills they got hit when they are chilled.

Actually I’m finding I rather enjoying stacking 6-8 burns on enemies in an AOE arc. xD

Speaking in terms of WvW, I’ve already done this.

I tried running without Deathly Chill both in zergs and while roaming and it makes a significant difference although it is also absolutely effective without it as well.

Necro has access to such a wide variety of conditions and the ability to maintain a high level of them on their foes. Reaper however, it is slightly more difficult due to the lack of conditions in Shroud. Chill makes up a significant amount of the damage because it’s so easy to re-apply you pretty much do it just by existing near an enemy. So for lack of Bleeds, Torment and Terror – Chill replaces those three that standard Death Shroud has access to. Without it, you’re not crippled but a) you have to put in noticeably more effort to maintain pressure on your foes and b) most of the other conditions your foes will have on them will be non-damaging such as Cripple, Vulnerability, Weakness, Blindness and now Chill once again.

Deathly Chill pretty much makes it so that all you need to do is spam Shroud AA or Scepter AA and win. Using it 100% brain dead. If they reduced the access Reaper had to Chill, it wouldn’t be so bad but if they reduced the access Reaper has to Chill… It would also ruin the theme and synergy between other traits. The only other reasonable thing to do is to further nerf Deathly Chill damage and I hope that they do.
