Hello!

I am pretty new to the game (and, granted, I spend far too much time roleplaying), and I seek an efficient levelling up guide to the Necromancer. After testing pretty much every class I have to admit Necromancer’s far more fun to play, and is far more my style However I have failed to find any help concerning the levelling. Mostly, where should I spend my points and how should I build up, at least until reaching a decent enough level?

(If there’s such a thing as a decent enough level, though – I find the early game awesome, which in itself is quite a feat..not mentionning any other games..)

Thanks in advance for helping ^^

Hello!

So far I have only leveled a Necromancer and a Guardian. Needless to say, the Guardian is a lot easier to level than the Necro. But still the Necro can get by without any problems.

First of all: If you wish to level up quickly, the fastest way is crafting. You can go from 1 to 20 from leveling cooking to 300 if that is your thing.

I’d recommend a scepter/dagger + staff build. Your first traitpoints should go into curses, since you will rely on conditions.

As for skillpoints: The first thing you want to do is get Consume Conditions. Your initial healing skill, the Bloodfiend, will die a lot. In fact it will die so quickly that it’s useless, leaving you without a healing skill. I can’t stress how bad this flying ham wallet is. I also recommend getting Epidemic and Blood is Power as soon as you can. This enables you to spread your damage nicely and kill mobs faster. Spectral Walk might be useful as well, it helps with roaming the map and also with kiting harder mobs; giving you means of escape when needed. Wells are very, very usefull as well. If you plan on doing dungeons with your new favourite Char, consider getting wells.

As a general rule I’d recommend to avoid using minions, you probably heard of the AI problems. Use Deathshroud in sticky situations, using it as a second health bar allows you to survive a lot longer. And you might want to carry 2 daggers with you, so you can destroy objects faster.

Last but not least: Be social. This game is an MMO and leveling with a friend is so much more fun

I have tried all the classes and found that necro is the funniest and strongest one.
My level is 80 and I have walked all the way from 1 to 80 with MM build.
Even with their AL I rarely die or even be in downed mode , in dungeons I’m the last man standing.
The minions will be weak without their traits as they increase their power , vitality , recharge time and the most important thing to MM which is siphoning health to you which will be your main healing source.
I advise you to get this build >> http://tinyurl.com/9ure-MM-build
And as for healing skill , you are advised to get Blood fiend as his healing will increase 50% from Bloodthirst , not to mention the siphoning from Vampiric Master trait.

The setup I used was axe+dagger / staff. It took forever to kill things, but I had a TON of aoe capabilities. I used well of darkness, well of suffering, and spectral walk for movement. Don’t give me a funny look for using the axe! I use it ONLY in PvE before level 80, and I use it exclusively for the PBaoe cripple.

My build would go something like this:
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=;0_-73;1IkI0G4gJkJ0;9;5EJJE;12;041-57-5;0U-k6ON;0OZG5OZ086o

Focusing on Death Magic first since my main was the staff, then Blood Magic for Well cooldown, and the other points are to make DS hit hard.

In combat, it basically starts with you laying all your marks, except possibly staff #5 on the enemy, or at least in his path to you as traps. Then swap to axe and open with #2, and when he gets close use axe#3 and staff #3 for chills and cripples to just kite him in circles. This works with groups of 5-10 enemies pretty easily, as long as there are no ranged enemies.

The well of suffering is for some serious aoe damage when they get in range and you’re kiting in circles, and well of darkness for if you get overwhelmed or are fighting a veteran/champion. Use Death Shroud when all your movement impairing abilities are on cooldown, and also try to use it every 40 seconds for Life Transfer. Death Shrouds #1 should hit like a truck, and pierces too for extra aoe goodness.

Plague may not be the best elite, but with this setup I’m always pulling at LEAST 5 enemies at once, and if I have a few more than I can handle I’ll pop Plague and switch between #1 and #2. It’s basically a “Haha, you can’t kill me!” button, and can take out 2 or 3 enemies if they’re at half health or so. Just make sure you use Plague before you hit half health. You could use Lich instead, but I find it dies too quickly.

Anyways, hope this help!

Allright, thank you! I’m going to try the staff and curse build mentionned earlier for my early building, and I’ve got the new Well of Blood spell (the one that heals over time, right?) to replace this old Blood Fiend, which died far too quickly for me to use it reliably.

If you take care of your minions , they will die rarely even the blood fiend.
There are many ways to heal them (you included) which are transfusion and mark of blood , not to mention the healing from your mates.

I’d recommend well of blood or consume conditions for the healing skill. I like the signet that gives you power, and the other wells. A lot of necro utility skills are useful for an array of different builds, so experiment with ones that sound good, just be aware that minion builds ARE good, but are relatively weak and feel unsatisfying without many traits to buff them. Once you get the traits for minions, they get significantly better.

Yeah, I suppose..sadly I’m still a puny level 12 at the moment on my Necromancer, so I will wait a little bit.

I’m putting my traits in Curses, and the staff build is quite interesting in group play (what with the different conditions I can stack)! However so far I’ve found Well of Blood a far more reliable healing skill (I’ve saved groups from death a few times already – not bad for someone who’s supposed to feed on people’s life forces ).

With better equipment I’ve gleaned along the way, I find my Necro more fun to play with each day so I’ll just keep at it! May I ask what traits are actually good for minion play, though? Because, no matter how, they keep on dying on me all the time.

You will not get good traits till level 40.
My build is the best MM build that heals minions too. I’m level 80 pure MM.
http://tinyurl.com/9ure-MM-build > All my set increases condition damage and some power to support my staff and daggers skills. My vitality and toughness are high too.
Minions siphoning will be your main healing source.

This is the exact build I use (work towards, currently level 78) but I use scepter/dagger and staff and I absolutely love it. It is so good for exploring and mowing through the game world. It’s a force to recon with no doubt and I hope they never change it.
