As a melee necro, it’s all about making them waste their stun breaks as fast as possible. Keeping them chilled or crippled, keeping them in range with dark path and spectral grasp and punishing them with the dagger usually forces them to expend their stun breaks. Once they’re out of those you can usually just root them and take them down, although you’re best to kill the clones with a life transfer before bursting them down to stop him from using them for extended daze or invulnerability.
One thing I have real trouble with is mesmers with a staff, in particular, the skill called phase retreat. This is 1200 range teleport that produces a clone, has no cast time, can be used while stunned, and has a 10 second untraited CD. Also it’s a leap finisher for god knows what reason. This ability, in my humble opinion is OP as hell, and it makes it somewhat difficult to stay on a mesmer.

This all seems like some pretty nice advice. I will swap out corrupt boon and give it a shot (melting guardians and elementalists is too addicting), thanks. Any more advice on more specific playstyles would also be appreciated.
I have ran into staff mesmers before and I don’t have much to say since it gave me the opportunity I needed to high tail it in the opposite direction. I can see how it could be a major kitten off if you are both fighting eachother.

Stay on the real mesmer.. Most players in pvp/wvw will have trouble keeping still. Staff clones are a little dangerous because they drop the same conditions staff does. Sword clones vuln. Greatsword and scepter clones are decoration. If you hit something and the health bar drops to half after the first swing, switch targets.
Mesmer condition removal is less than ideal. It’s the only class besides Engineer that comes to mind that doesn’t have a heal which removes conditions. They have to trait to do that, and they usually won’t. After that, there’s the choice of Null Field, Arcane Thievery, and Mantra of Resolve. The mantra has the shortest cooldown, but it needs to be reset.
Mesmers don’t have a speed signet or a long duration on their swiftness from focus. Chills, cripples, and immobilizes hurt them more than stuns, which can be blinked or phased out of.
Mesmers have a base health pool slightly higher than thieves without the bells and whistles of sneak attacks. I’ve seen few that don’t go full glass cannon.
i can see necros having a bit of trouble with mesmers. Then again, what class doesn’t (besides gc thieves on gc mesmers). And yes, i can phase retreat to a higher ledge, go invisible to drop another clone there, and blink to another higher ledge now with 2 more staff clones attacking you and end up on a place that you can’t reach in 10+ seconds or can’t reach at all. All done in half a second and usually discourages anyone from fighting me.
