I started a warrior got to level 3 and had zero problem plowing through and decimating mobs at lvl 3 – 6. I then went further out from the starting area and started attacking mobs at lvl 7 -10 (i.e. 4-7 levels above me) that also worked but the mobs took a little longer to die.

But here’s the punch line: I was attacking mobs 4-7 levels above me with my warrior and I STILL killed things faster than my necro when facing a mob of his own level (granted I took more damage but still, you get the point) the all around damage output of necros is pathetic compared to other classes. Spin it any way you want. This is a fact. As a necro you’re struggling to level facing off with similiar level mobs while other proffesions have a breeze killing things twice as fast and coming out with over 80% hp . .

Now GW2 is a cool game all and I generally like the concept of dynamically down-leveling, but Anet failed to inform us that necromancers in the game are permanently down-leveled about 6 levels. So at 80 we’re de facto lvl 74.

This is my working theory. Discuss.

P.S. this also explains why Jon thinks necro DS is OP, he must of course be playing an un down- leveled necro.

Now that I have spread my venomous thoughts, I’m going to play my mesmer.

While there are a terrible many things wrong with necromancers at the moment, perhaps you should play a class past the beginning levels before judging it on how much damage it does. Personally I found leveling with my necro got much much better around level 20-30….then again when I hit 80 everything was downhill from there. Shrug.

level 80 requires a lot of farming to get your exotic gear and legendaries. even if you plan to just roll up another alt at some point you will want to gear out one or all of your characters.

necros are unbeatable in farming ability. they have the most and shortest cooldown aoe’s that hit hard enough on the initial cast to guarantee a tag and a loot chance if it pops.

they are insane farmers whether the DE’s, the trolls or just whatever is in reach in the shores.

the game is different 1-25, changes again at 60 then again at 75+ depending on if you open up orr at appropriate levels.

warriors feel OP because the passive regen on their healing signet heals for more than any other regen out there right now, ticking for 38 at level 6 which allows yo uto sit there and let a same level mob beat on you and you outheal the damage. this changes later, and even warriors need to circle-kite some of the risen or just straight break out a rifle for claw of jormag.

Yes but I’m talking about the raw damage, it just isn’t there for necros compared to other classes, even DOT it doesn’t compare, it’s not even close to being in the same ballpark as a thief or a warrior. It’s not balanced or fun to feel weak while playing. Once you play a warrior or any other class really then you can’t unsee it . .

Necros do fine in dynamic events that require multiple mobs to die. As the event script does not care about damage done to individual mobs, as long as you tag as many mobs as possible, you will get gold. Hint: Use staff

Disclaimer: might not work if soloing the event due to obvious reasons….

False. As a Dual-Axe Warrior every hit you do is an AOE and you attack insanely fast. Couple that with the insane damage the Warrior can already get by speccing into Precision and Discipline you got quite a winner here. Warrior also has heavy armor and good health gain so in PvE (not dungeons) the Warrior is better.
