Hi all,

I hve a 33 scepter/dagger condition Necro, who’s fun, but a bit frustrating. Are Necros any fun in WvW at 80? That’s my endgame goal, and I don’t want to keep leveling a profession that turns out to be kitten in WvW.

Thanks!

yeah i have had pretty fun on www when there has been good fights where both groups had quite equal chances of beating each.
today i had plenty fun on my alt necro which i took spectral walk and then with it i run middle of enemies to drop my wells and death shroud to use life transfer (but sadly time usually goe sup before i can take all out of it. ) and then spectral walk returns me to safety. then i wait in distance (of course attacking enemies that come too close ) and do it again.. it did couple times force enemy to retreat even that wells really do not do much .. of course with higher level necro could have got target wells for more efficient welling.

My necro is often the one pushing and forcing back an enemy. You can make people very nervous once they recognize your character. Using the elite skill Plague you can alternate the 2 and 3 attacks, keeping up aoe Fumble and aoe blinds, and the increased defenses lets you wallow around for a good while.

Also aoe conditions are also good scare tactics as you can drop 3-4 aoe’s and get people flustered. You can chase people off a gate solo just dropping aoe’s. An aggressive necro using shroud and other tools makes people uneasy.

But make no doubt, this class is mostly smoke and mirrors and probably the least effective damage-wise. You will be ranged utility. If that’s your thing then sure. A smart necro fears off rez attempts, you can pop #2 in death shroud to blink/chill a fleeing foe, then fear them backwards to your friends. You can pull people off keep walls, or back from a water’s edge.

You are not a fun class to be fighting, but if your enemy is a good player and geared, you are basically hoping there’s a realy good dps nearby to save yourkitten It’s not glamour at all, just novel and fun. I can win a lot of 1v1’s as well, but not against a straight up equally geared decent player.

A ranger spamming showbow #1 autoattack will kill you. I love mine, but I wish I had rolled a guardian or ranger, actually just anything else. Yay for a challenge….but no seriously it is fun. (and unrewarding).

Mezirah, I will try out your playstyle today. Thank you for the inspiration!

It is, however, smoke and mirrors, I agree with it. Did you see the build Tony posted yesterday? Agressive short range build that can somehow burst some damage and apply some conditions. But this is it. Now most of people running WvW, even sPvP aren’t awesome, and not even average players, they are just lame. PVE folsk playing big PvP game. In other words, noobz you can intimidate by your agressive playstyle, but once your enemy has some experience, he is bully-proofand once he remembers that current necro has no way of being a serious threat, he just kills you. Tony’s build and what you say, those things are fun because if you meet a noob you just storm him and win. Though your success isn’t assured by your skill or your proper build, but by him running away and loosing his mind and focus. Finding proper enemies means you are dead and can’t change that.

My current server was matched with some DE server, Elona’s Reach I think is the name. And I must pay my respects to them, not even did they manage their numbers well, but most of them had exact idea how to behave and how to play the class. Then I discovered many german powergamers moved to that server (and not loosing that much to them made me feel somehow good about my own server). Seriously, either on 1vs1, small scale pvp or zerg vs zerg, not a single one of them was intimidated by agressive playstyle, they all kept their heads cool and focused on their calculated rotations and common sence. Now the important question: guess how competitive necro is in that enviroment? A little hint: not at all.

Ok I agree with guys above, about fake scaring people off and so on.

-I have 80 condi spec, sceptre, staff, bleed sigil
-ability to stack bleeds QUICKLY is weak, you can get around 10
-you must use epidemic asap or it gets wiped by people’s condition cleanse
-against organised group who stack on each other your bleeds get removed very quickly to the point that you do no damage
-DS is up a lot of the time and effective solo. I imagine in groups it is not necessary. Also in group I would take a staff ele over a necro, a lot more aoe control. e.g. I think our aoe chill is not as large as advertised, bug maybe. Necro would best be a friend for some class who can actually stack conditions quickly.
-pets seem more stupid than usual in wvw if you try to use, mabe zone lag affects them more or something who knows
-necro is all right on defence, against zergs, pugs as I’m sure any moderately survivable ranged aoe class is.
-for small scale stuff you can’t 1v1 very well as it is difficult to chase people down. The gap closers, DS gap closer = is so slow it will never hit before they run OOR, the pull thankfully doesn’t travel so slow but will miss 3/4 or more of the time due to bugginess/uneven terrain. I was playing with my friends sceptre ele and he would basically kill it before I’d do much damage at all both by reaching the player earlier and doing more straight up burst.

I’m not having much fun with mine lately. Don’t expect to do much damage. Your cc and conditions are a nuisance at best.

In world v world I have had success with both the condition and minion builds. You have great survivability compared to other classes in game when on the wall or attacking it. You can struggle a little bit in 1v1 matches. If you handle it right, and have 1 or 2 friends with you, you almost never die. Flesh golem is the best elite skill for WvW IMO.

I have tons of fun with a 0-30-20-20-0 build and Carrion specced armor. Use two wells, and easy to switch them out with just a small trait change or two. Power/Darkness without the ground-target casting in open field skirmishes; Corruption/Suffering for keep/castle battles with the ground-target. Epidemic and Plague always.

Could also be worked as a Wells/Power/Lifestealing build if those get fixed.

Plague is just too silly good for any sort of large, open-field engagement. Silly good.

I have typically run a staff/wells build which I refer to as the ‘siege Necro’. That has problems when you’re not attacking or defending walls, however, because people just roll out of your wells and you’re pretty ineffectual for the next 45 seconds. I’m gonna try out a specialized Death Shroud dancer for a bit tonight and see how it functions in the open field and smaller skirmishes.

My gfx card is below-par to play this game at places where zergging occurs (World/Group Events – WvW), but still I perform pretty well with my lv 58 Necro and with just 10 points in traits lines (yeah, I’m a cheap kitten saving for the 2g Necro Trait Book).

But although I kill ppl 1 snapshot at a time (1 FPS FTW… NOT!) I perform faily well as support or damage adder.

I use Scepter/Dagger+Staff with Precision/Condition Dmg in Armor, Power/Precision in Weapons and Condition Dmg/Power/Precision and Toughness in Accessories.

My Elites are (for now) Consume Conditions/Well of Suffering/Corrosive Poison Cloud/Epidemic (Rules!)/Plague. What I do, is casting all at a distance and targetting the enemy with the most Conditions and drop Epidemic on him and lets my fellow warriors to do the rest. Plus DS #4 is amazing to finish the work.

I shall change Well of Suffering for Corrupt Boon tho to help Epidemic be more effective.

I had this problem too, and found a fix that worked really well for me.

This is with a 0-30-20-20-0 build, which is probably at least similar to what you were running.

For keep/seige battles, I run with WoC and WoS. I trait Focused Rituals.

For open field skirmishes, I run with WoD and WoP, and trait for Chilling Darkness. Because I’m going to likely be under more fire, these utilities and traits are quite helpful, and I already am getting a pretty strong amount of conditions and AoE from my weapon sets.

Maybe I am just not lucky with it but I ALWAYS get taken out when using plague. I prefer the golem to help in 1v1 situations. I use the plague on occasion, but I get targeted heavily with it. The golem lets me stand back a little bit. For some reason people target that thing like it is a demon. It is also great for getting into gates. Charge through people and you can knock down a ton of enemies.

SuperJ: This is the basics of the build- http://gw2skills.net/editor/en/?fQUQNAW74iM6tb87JAJFXD9kiuHP6BxAkMA;TEAgyA

I change the utilities and a trait or two (sometimes choosing the wells give protection trait) depending on whether its open-field or seige.
