Necrotic traversal is completely broken?
If you use a mesmer portal you can travel between any two points within the time limit without a problem. Necrotic traversal seems worthless in comparison. It seems like it’s using the code from thief’s shadow step instead of the mesmer portal. It has a very short unlisted range limitation. It can not take you across the map like a mesmer portal by any means. Most of the time it ports you vaguely in the direction of your wurm instead of the actual location of the wurm. Frequently it only “teleports” you a single step but kills the wurm anyway. The skill should be fixed to have the portal functionality for the necromancer. If not, the text should be fixed to describe the actual ability: “Shadow step in the direction of your flesh wurm”.
It has a max range of 1200. I do agree that it should teloport the Necro to the location and not try to move the necro.
Works as intended. A portal travel would break jumping puzzles.

It really would not. its on a long CD. Also so its ok for Mesmer’s to be able to do it but not Necro’s?
The difference is that Mesmers put a portal at their feet while Necrotic Traversal can be used at range. If it were to simply teleport the Necromancer casting it, then one could skip huge parts of jumping puzzles (think the one in Mount Maelstrom for instance).
Not a big deal, really, but it’s probably better to actually complete the content and, you know, feel good about completing a challenge.

What about Mesmer’s ‘Blink’ then?
all short range ‘teleport’ skills, like blink, necrotic travel, shadowstep(or whaever the thief short bow thing is called) behave the same way currently, that is you cannot cross gap or go up cliffs with them.
As much as I would love for Necrotic Traversal to actually do something and not be rendered entirely useless by attempting to port to a spot that’s less than a jump’s height above the current axis I’m on, it would break too many maps imho.
It’s already possible to get out of maps in a select few areas, god knows what an additional targeted Teleport, long cooldown or not, could accomplish.

Thanks for the tip. However I see many people exploiting guardian to do exactly the same thing. Guardian gs4 can pretty much leap over any hard jump without any effort.

Here’s an easily solution. Make the worm spawn by your feet like a well when you cast it. Voila, now you can give it a real teleport and have it actually be useful.
I think that would be a fair trade-off. Casting it at your feet and being able to use it as a true portal later makes much more sense than being able to cast it at range but not teleport to it correctly most of the time.
I think its fine, just change its description to match how it works. This has saved me lots of times in pvp, its a good skill.

I see engi’s doing this as well with the rifle

Not true, engineer: Jump Shot, ranger: Swoop and warrior: Whirlwind Attack will take you off of cliffs, and they travel exactly as far as a normal jump from the edge of that cliff would (even if the distance it dashes on solid ground is normally longer).
Jump shot is the only one that works for jumping to a higher spot though.
Whirlwind Attack being able to pass through the target and continue on, has caused me to fall to my death a few times.
That said I do enjoy the jumping puzzles and a super easy wait to beat them would not be fun, though there was one time I used Necrotic Traversal to pass a bit of hill that was to steep to walk on, but to long to jump over. So in the rare case there is unwalkable ground between you and the worm, but no height difference, you can teleport to it even if it was normally unreachable.

To be honest, I use that skill mostly for the 36s Swiftness.
Best utility ever.
I could care less about the jumping puzzles. Except for teh wvw one the only reward to doing them is the satisfaction of completing them, and they are pretty easy anyway. Although terrain exploit into keeps etc more serious issue, which is what people were doing with teleports earlier.
