I’m a level 47 Necro that focuses on condition damage; when using a staff i use a lot of marks, when using my scepter I focus on wells and signets.

The 2 main traits that I have a majority of points in are Spite and Curses, and the remaining points I have in Blood Magic.

Should I continue to spend trait points in this fashion for a good condition build, or should I put a few spare points into Soul Reaping or Death Magic?

i dont know much about condition necros, but:
please, get rid of prayer to dwayna!

other than that:
curses is your main trait line, so you should max it.
death magic is also very good cause of greater marks and staff mastery. but you dont need more than 20 points in it.

Prayer to dwayna isn’t a good healing skill? :O

Consume Conditions is usually better, I think. If you cleanse 2 conditions with it, it outheals Dwayna on a 5 second shorter recharge.

It’s actually a weird factoid, but I’m pretty sure that every profession has a skill that straight up outclasses Prayer to Dwayna: either in terms of greater utility via some gimmick, or a shorter recharge time, or just having 100% scaling with compassion instead of Dwayna’s 85%.

Oh, I guess I was just going by the total amount of points it says it heals in one use XD

Should I put any points in death magic or soul reaping? The attributes for those traits sound more like a burst build than a condition build

Sorry, I guess I got distracted there. I’d say put a few more points into Blood Magic and Mark of Evasion. It’s a pretty solid defensive trait that gets you a lot of regeneration on yourself and free bleeds on your foe.

If you use Well of Suffering or Well of Corruption, you could try for Focused Rituals in Curses. (Ground targeting doesn’t seem that useful for Well of Power or Well of Blood) Otherwise, more points in Spite for Spiteful Marks to boost your staff damage & condition duration.

It really is up to taste though: if you feel like you’re having trouble surviving, go for the vitality and healing in Blood Magic. If you feel like your only issue is a lack of damage, go for the power and condition duration of Spite.

What Softspoken said. You will need to swap weapons frequently as cooldowns tic to maintain condition application and use death shroud often (not till it expires).

I am a bit of scrub but I run a support necro based on conditions and use epidemic as a pseudo interrupt forcing enemies to dispel conditions or be melted. Keep in mind epidemic cooldown is about half of the enemy condition removal cd’s so it will bite them hard – including those close enough but avoiding your marks (I reckon it may be further nerfed maybe with a longer cooldown…hope not).

My build is 0/20/30/20/0 with staff scepter/dagger (sigil of geomancy for bleeds) and full carrion gear (6/6 superior rune of the undead). Trait choices are {curses – weakened shroud and focused rituals}, {Death Magic – greater marks, ritual of protection and with a minion, flesh of the master or without a minion, death shiver} and {blood magic – bloodthirst and ritual mastery}. Utility slots are 6- consume conditions, 7 – epidemic (or spectral walk for single fights), 8- Well of Corruption, 9 – Well of Suffering, elite – flesh golem if soloing stuff or plague.

Lay down your marks with the staff, swap weapons to scepter/dagger, scepter 1,2,3, dagger 4,5, epidemic, swap weapons to staff, staff2,1 ,1, well of corruption, well of suffering, epidemic…then Death shroud and DS4,1,1 exit DS….rinse and repeat. Use the elite (charge or plague when opportune).

If you like the support role you may like this sort of approach. Not for everyone and my build may not be the best but I like how it plays at the moment and its playstyle can be a bit hectic at times…it is not a lazy build.

Edit: This is also a solid build with all stats between 1450 and 1550 and a health pool of 24.5K….would be better if I got all exotic stuff but at the moment most is still rare (except weapons).
