Need to improve my Necro for WvW
Dire/Trailblazer with Perplexity or Nightmare runes is your best bet.
Hmm, keeping in mind that I don’t roam much since I lost my w and d keys in a freak strafing accident, if you’re wanting to keep your equipment the way it is for the most part my thoughts would be:
Reapers Shroud is more survivable than death shroud, so take reaper. Also Rise is great.
Souls is a good survival traitline for the spectral armour trait and the added stability/stun break. In wvw where mobility is so often key to survival taking spectral walk with reduced cooldown might not be the worst either, though not really needed outside fun with cliffs if you switch to warhorn.
Each of the other trait lines offers something desirable for survivability options, so depends what else you take to synergise with. I’d probably go with death magic for minions, condi removal and the bonus toughness/protection (I like corrupters fervour).
I play full Power for zerging, but Dire or Rabid’s and going Condi would significantly help you in small group play.
Necros are really vulnerable to CC, and with that in mind, most of gankers / solo roamers tend to stun and then burst. If they can’t they evade back and strikes soon again.
Necros are not really mobile profession, so disengaging from fight might be impossible.
I’d say adjust your traits / specialization that you can’t be stunned and you can break free from stuns.
Try casting wells / aoe skills right at your feet / area to create protecting ring around you.
I find necros better as a condidamage dealers, don’t know much about berserking builds. But hope this helps even a little.
Im on fire in Ring of Fire
I run rabid condi with perplex and some dire mixed. Traited shouts with rise + yaaw for short cd stun break. I run locust sig or swap with plague sig/spectral armor depending.
Really survivable but you have to save dodges for the big stuff, position right and use terrain/los.
I’ve had a lot of luck running a power build in both solo and zerg play.
If you wanted to go reaper you could swap out either death magic or spite.
I’ve become very partial to Plague recently both to run away (if I can make it to a body of water, I’m going to win 99% of the time) or in zerg play (Plague #3 is an AoE weakness which causes enemies to do half damage and kill their stamina).
You could do some additional damage swapping out the soldier’s pieces for berserker’s until you hit a level you’re comfortable with.

^ My back line necromancer build for WvW. Very strong, hits very hard. The key is to not be standing in red circles so you can stay alive better, but to not be too far from the rest of your back line.

and by far the most obnoxious (not to mention unkillable if you play your cards right) of all the builds in existence for all classes. this is the build you use if trying is not your strong suit.

Unfortunately, not using it doesn’t stop people from running other cheese builds, and it might be your best bet against things that otherwise are incredibly hard to kill (warriors).

my only problem with warriors tends to be in the form of perplex burnzerkers.
