Hello everyone,

Some of you may remember i did a 4 necromancers + 1 mesmer Citadel of Flame path 1 fast run. We did it in 6 minutes 30 seconds back then…
Since then the game has changed, i have released a new version of the glass cannon… and of course the fast run had to be redone.

Guild Wars 2 – CoF p1 fast run v2.0 [analysis, comparison, conclusions and suggestions]

In this video besides the actual run… which is quite faster then the last time (since the running speed is the same, yet we managed to get 40 seconds off the clock) you will also find a small analysis from my POV on the whole concept of speed kills / power type damage… and where the necromancer stands in this.

I also included a few conclusions and a really nice suggestion.

5:53 compared to brazil’s ~4:55 if we start counting from explosion (and warrior/rangers would trigger the beginning faster and be generally faster with leaps and stuff). Still, not bad at all, not bad.

To be fair, you had no idea how efficient they were at using their skills. So to take a pug like group and get that time is impressive. Let us not dwell on the exact number as much as being able to look at it from a conceptual perspective.

If you really wanted to push for speed, perhaps 3 Necro with a Mesmer and a Warrior or ranger to give buffs might be the way to go. Obviously, the video was not for that purpose alone.

Fury, swiftness, +15% crit damage amongst other things. He also not ALWAYS stayed at 25 might.

Dagger auto is more dps than DS so having fury to use dagger would cut the time down. Banner of discipline and banner of strength are incredibly important.

The point I’m making is that the video does a great job of showing the viability of the zerker Necro.

Don’t just say XXXXX did it in 10 seconds less, because the video is not made to break world records. He found some zerker necros go knew what they were doing but we have no reason to believe they were geared for the fastest Cof speed run (balefire comes to mind)

Also, banners are important. World record team had three classes, and Nemesis only had two. The fact that he did it in such a fast speed with a group of normal Necro + Mesmer shows his point well.

You can be 100% in melee for cof though and any other dungeon aswell for that matter. Its faceroll. My necro build is slightly more effective power than the DS build and I have 55% crit chance. Fury brings that up to 75%. Banner of discipline brings that up to 83%. Even with 100% crit chance you dont always crit, theres a cap. But in a short duration fight, 83% crit chance is close enough to 100% crit chance anyway. So deathly perception, although good, isnt needed. If 83% isnt enough you can always take precision food to boost it a bit more anyway.

Back on topic. I like the suggestion of an aura on lichform. But I dont think it should stack. Rangers frost spirit doesnt stack and thats on average 7% dmg boost when traited. I dont think it should be encouraged to take more than 1 of any class. So just having a flat 10-15% damage boost in lich form would be enough to make them a solid pick for speed runs.

However with the devs intending to release new utilities and traits in the future for all classes. Id much rather see this damage boost aura implemented in a new utility skill type. Along with other aura’s which provide utility like condition removal on crit, life steal on crit, or X% chance to apply X condition on hit. You get the idea, a moderate to low cooldown, high duration unique buff which applies to all party members within range of the necromancer.

I use to run 30 pts in SR. Stopped a while back. The stability in DS is really helpful. But i no longer find I needed it. I know dungeons well enough to not rely on the safety of DS. I still have 15 points in SR so I still get last gasp which is nice. Although if I ever get round to soloing lupi on necro. I probably will go back to 30/10/0/0/30 for that fight.

No i havent yet. I havent found the time or the patience to solo a path all the way up to him yet. But ive already planned builds and utilities for the fight. Id also quite like to sort out recording before i do attempt it properly.
