So they’re both blind utility… But one is on a much lower cooldown and they both nearly do the same thing… Am I missing something? That’s a serious question. I honestly feel like there’s something I’m just not seeing here that warrants Well of Darkness to have a 50s base cooldown?

Thanks for any explanations in advanced!

Well of Darkness has 900 range, it procs Vampiric Rituals, and you can use it in any build instead of just with the Greatsword. That’s pretty much it. I don’t see a compelling reason to take it if you’re running Greatsword other than to extend the length of the blind pulses.

I main Ele and Necro, though I have an alt of each profession at level 80.

I would guess nightfall on GS build for blind as… well, a blind.

Well of Darkness on a Chillomancer build combo’d with the trait that makes blinds also do chill.

I do not bother with GS on a condi build because scepter/focus has most condi’s, and staff as alt has chill and fear that can be traited to do condi damage… in addition to the bleeds and poison.

WoD is bad, and I can’t honestly see a reason to use it except maybe some niche spots. CPC has far stronger shutdown potential, with a longer period of anti-melee, plus anti-projectile, and on a shorter CD, with weakness being the only drawback to not make it strictly better in every way.

Well of Darkness pulses every second so you will pretty much not get hit (well for the most part). Nightfall is every 2 seconds so useful but not that great

Nightfall does dmg and is better in every way, I consider it the best GS skill currentyl. WoD CD is what keeps it out of my rotation together with tthe fact that Chilling Darkness is in the “wrong” traitline to make it vaible.

Chilling Darkness used to apply 1s of Chill each time your foes were blinded, and there was no internal cooldown. Now, it’s just not worth using anymore. I honestly don’t know what they were thinking when they added an internal cooldown to it.

Chilling Darkness has been in the Curses line since before launch (back when it did confusion).

Thanks for the correction. I didn’t realize my old traitline notes had typos in ’em.

I agree. I currently use CPC and the uselessness of WoD is ever more obvious when you use greatsword with reaper. I think as it stands I might use it as is if the CD were dropped to around 30s base. I’m not a fan of the well trait at all.
