Hey guys,

Like the title says, I’m not giving up on this build. It’s so unique and interesting. I’ve heard many players tell me how broken MM is due to the crappy AI system in Guild Wars 2. But I don’t want to be forced into playing something else because it’s more effective. I want to play what I want. MM is really good in open world. Dungeons I haven’t tried yet since iam only LV 48.

My question is, what gear should I focus on? Berserker? Soilders? I may WvW roam here and there. But mainly open world is the route I’m going for after I get all my gear together.

Lv.80 Chronomancer (Mesmerist Palamecia)
Lv.80 Scrapper (Alchemist Persenia)
Lv.80 Druid (Mender Zalintyre)

In PvE you should only be using Berserker/Assassin gear, in WvW Soldier is your best bet most likely.

I like playing MM in tPVP and it works quite well as long as the minions don’t bug out. hopefully the new patch will have some new AI tech or fix the problem cause minions account for a lot of the necromancers skills.

MM is laughably bad in WvW.

I have a necromancer minion master that I use in open world PVE. I am using cleric armor and weapons. I do some damage with my staff, but rely mostly on my minions to do the damage. My main purpose is to keep them alive as long as possible (and damage the enemy at the same time). That is what the cleric stats are for, the healing power.

It seems to work pretty good, and with most of the enemy npc’s, I am very hard to kill. I can take on a sizable mob of trash npc’s with no problems at all. Some champions I can take on by myself without ever being in great fear of dying, e.g. the giant champion in Cursed Shores. The worms condition me, and I then just send all of the conditions to the giant. There are exceptions, of course (looking at death knight with its flame attacks). Then again, all other classes are just as vulnerable against the death knights flame attacks, if not more so, than my necromancer.

MM is laughably bad in WvW.

Not so much for roaming in the Northern borderlands. Minions tend to not bug out much there and can actually be rather effective.

As for zerging combat, Death Nova and Shadow Fiend are all right, since you can send the Fiend wherever you like in the enemy zerg. Flesh Golem also works all right for this and his charge is still useful in those situations. Better still is using Lich Form’s Mark of Horror for 5 time bombs in the middle of the enemy zerg.

Actually, Death Nova isn’t a bad trait for ZvZ combat, since you will be getting kills to summon time bombs, and since they are summoned right then, their pathing is unlikely to bug out.

Minion AI is really bad, it almost feels like the devs went out of their way to create such an atrocious AI system. That being said even with good AI they simply won’t work well in many situations like:

WvW zerg fights even mini zerg fights, theres just too much AoE.

Dungeons, they can die too easily during champ, boss and mass elite fights, you are better off using stuff like wells.

In Pve during events where there are a lot of AoE, champs or bosses.

MM builds are really mainly good for body blocking when there are a lot of trash mobs or focusing one target.

In any case your post got me thinking about minions again and Anet says they are improving the AI so here is a minion build i think could work. You can try it out at end game, not sure if i will anytime soon.

You can always swap the well for spec armour and use Unholy sanctuary to be a bit more tanky
