Our healing
We did get a healing buff. Just an indirect one: Greater Life Force gain equates to more “health” in any fight.
With Life force you’re restricted to Death Shroud which isn’t always a good choice. DS1 sucks for condi necro’s and DS2 feels clunky. Besides: vampiric rituals siphons for 10 health per enemy per second. That’s a max of 250 health per well for a grandmaster trait. 2 seconds of regeneration beat that. I just wonder why our other grandmaster traits are being updated while the ones that needed the most work, didn’t. typical anet I suppose.
Wow, with all the buffs necros are getting you are still complaining? ffs, death shroud is getting a new skill with a new massive dot condition (making cleansing other conditions that much harder ) and immobilize, and now you’ll be able to be in death shroud more than ever with life force gain buffs. Death shroud was never meant to be ideal in all circumstances, but just the fact that the class with the highest hp pool gets a whole second health bar that is becoming easier and easier to fill should be cause for celebration. And now that you’ll be able to pwn us in death shroud with torment, not only will you be surviving everything, you’ll be killing everyone at the same time.

You have never played necromancer, have you…
Death shroud is in many casted just a “tap to cast enfeebling blood and fear” tool. Most of the time it’s not even worth tapping to tank, since it drains so fast. Also, gaining life force without atleast 20 points in soul reaping is a feat that takes atleast 5 minutes. Having a high health pool does not mean you are a great class. We are meant to survive while you are getting crushed by our conditions. Which is impossible far too many times, because lifeforce gain in a fight is a hard thing to do. You can go either shroud sustain or condition damage, both at the same time is not so easy to do.
(Yes. This is my personal oppinion. Please don’t take this as a “everyone” is as bad as me.)
They should fix life siphon.. Seriously, with the trait making it 50% i still only siphon for like 30-40 hp

“A whole second healthbar”… that gets spiked down in 2-3 seconds in WvW, or at least quite quickly in any other PvP mode.
Okay then.

You get a whole 2-3 seconds in WvW? HOW?? I get AT BEST one second. And then I’m dead. Even vs a bers-thief I get atmost 5 seconds of shroud. That’s why I don’t run reapers might.
I’d be happy if they did even half of the “leaked” updates. Cool down reduction on wells is huge for WoP, WoB, and WoD. Most wells are highly defensive so that should have a big effect on defensive play; especially wvw well-bombing and dungeons.
That leak could easily be a list of things for dev’s to try, not implement. Also, we should get downed state fixed this next patch, else I will be grumpy, and that will also go a good ways toward our supposed sustain. I did post a suggestion for a healing bonus based on damage taken but those are always long-shots.

ye I don’t see the point of not adjusting this. I mean come on we get very thought out new traits and hard to balance skill effects, but we can’t get a little bit more healing? I can’t imagine anet thinking our current blood magic traitline is viable, else they don’t play the necro enough.
The Blood Magic trait line kind of sucks and will apparently continue to suck, but frankly Death Shroud is a far more interesting mechanic anyway. It’s just never been good enough to really do what it’s supposed to.
Buffing Death Shroud by giving it a damaging condition and improving Life Force generation really feels like the right way to go about improving the necromancer. I just hope it’s enough.

If your running vamp necro chances are your also running sigils and runes and food for siphoning. If you buffed the traits siphon too much along with buffing the life force gain WE WOULD NEVER kittenING DIE EVER. It needs to.be done carefully.

This is why PvE and PvP skills need to be separated.

I think that with “a whole second healthbar” he meant “a whole healthbar that lasts a second”, which really makes more sense.
Humor apart, Blood Magic definitely needs to be looked at. There is no real tradeoff in not investing point in that traitline.
You are not getting vitality, which you don’t need anyway. You’re not getting Healing Power, which you don’t need since none of our abilities scale with Healing Power.
You’re not getting any trait worth picking.
So, why anyone would invest any point in Blood Magic? Only a fool or a tryhard would do that.

Yes, supposedly solving life force gain does not fix the problems in the blood magic line. However, Vampiric Rituals is indirectly affected by the reduced recharge on wells. It’s still a bit underwhelming though.
Well in all honesty it probably needs a buff in tpvp with no access to maintenance oils and omnom ghosts or pies and no real knights amulet it won’t be as effective as it is in wvwvw and pve. In wvwvw I can usually fight multiple opponents and not die unless its just ranged fighters give me problems sometimes.

oh you mean like certain ele. mesmer, thief builds?
If you want to talk about the viability of DS as a defensive mechanic, then you have to consider quite a few things, like what build you are using and what build they are using.
If you are using a pure zerker necro, then of course DS is going to be taken down quickly. It is taken down quickly because zerker necros in general are taken down quickly. They only have 18k HP and 1836 armor.
In sPVP, whenever I use my minion master I run with full soldier’s gear, and get 1000 toughness alongside of 650 Vit and a really good protection proc. Here, my DS is a beast to take down. I find the degen here does more damage than actual enemy skills, and it is so high that I can use Life Blast multiple times for additional damage. The lack of stability isn’t an issue with minions, since minions keep attacking anyway, and the set already has really high LF generation thanks to the dagger/focus + staff combination. When fighting people 1 vs 1 or 1 vs 2, I have so much statistical bulk (40K effective HP + 34k effective HP in DS) that it almost isn’t fair.
The main caveat with survivability in DS is that it only works in small scales. In 1 vs. 1 it is excellent. In zerg vs. zerg, not so much. But thankfully they’re buffing LF generation, which also makes DS better in the long run.
he soldiers mm is usually what I run in tpvp and spvp as well yeah it takes forever to kill you to the point where your minions can die and get back up before they can do enough damage to kill you.
