In pvp I often see well necromancers with a marauder set up laying their wells on top of one another. That is stupid since it makes it so easy to just walk out of the wells.

I learned this when I played a well necro in WvW. Make the wells overlap only a little bit and use it to put pressure on nodes and put pressure and area denial on downed enemies or enemies trying to cleave or stomp an ally or rez a friend. Putting your wells on top of eachother, without any form of CC, just makes their impact much less.

Also don’t just randomly spam out wells like I see a lot of people doing. I often have people throw out 3 wells the second I approach their point (or they approach mine) in PvP, and it does nothing except tell me that you have no utilities for the next 30 seconds.

well i use well of power and well of corruption. What I like to do is to feign well of corruption by casting it where my enemy is, implying the enemy is at a distance and I am trying to close the gap. I use well of power to make him waste his evade, and while chasing I go into the well of power, converting my conditions. Now that he has less endurance I trap him with immobilize, then well of corruption.

I have spec armor for extra stun break. Foot in the grave as well.

THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO USE WELLS 101 GUIDE BY HOLLTS

Wells are great but can be useless. Of course dropping them at your feet will not change anything in a fight. So how DO you land your wells?! Here’s how:

1) USE CC – Immob, fear, chill, knockdown etc .
No one is gonna stay in your wells voluntarily, so you have to make them. Chain CC’s to keep ’em where ya want, what I do is wait until they have blown some cleanses and use Tainted Shackles > Dagger 3 > WoSuffering > Dagger AA.
Simple and effective, how I like it.

2) REZZING/STOMPING – If people are not moving…
Anyway who is rezzing or stomping will not move for ~3 secs and that is the perfect time to drop some wells. In the beginning of this video you can see them all rezzing the necro… dropped WoCorruption and Suffering and we got a pentakill

3) Don’t just blow ‘em! – Wells are not as good in 1v1’s
In 1v1’s use them VERY carefully because one dodge and they are out. Use CC and drop wells if you know you can get 2+ ticks in. That is enough IMO.

4) Suprise! – Use them unexpectedly
Is someone chasing you? Drop a well behinf you, turn back, spam dat dagger AA and take half of his HP.

28 sec CD? Aw yea!
WoSuffering is quite spamable with 28 sec CD (when traited), use it often to get some breathing room or proc some necro stuff

Well actually the technique or habit as you might call it was born out of wvw zergbusting. While yes you land more of your ticks if the necros spread them all out, it doesn’t coincide with the effect you want to have on a raid. It’s the ele’s job to do wide spread gradual damage to the entire enemy melee train but the necros sole job is to get people down and it doesn’t have to get the entire melee train down at once.

By overlapping and placing them at the same time you create a focus fire on as small an amount of people as possible so you don’t let the damage be spread thinly amongst all the melee therefore dulling the effect which is already happening with the aoe cap, and placing both corruption and suffering at the same time creates an effect of spiking them before they can react by getting both ticking at once. Otherwise getting them to tick one at a time and spreading the ticks between each of the players in the melee means you will simply be out-sustained resulting in them surviving till the next water blasting and all your work is reset.

Of course this is all very different to how things work in spvp because in zergbusting the enemy melee are moving in a ball with the same momentum so you can predict their movement and they are held in place with the help of immobilise/CC/chill from ele’s and your melee.

Basically what Zetsumei said. Different situations means you use them differently. It’s not always spread them out.

I agree a lot of people can’t use them properly though.

Basically this post was just an awareness announcement based on what I’ve been seeing in pvp these days. I don’t really play necro that much anymore tbh.

And I don’t really find the signet builds to be my cup of tea.
