Partner for Necro?
thief mesmer or guardian why thief? shadow refuge is awsome why mesmer viel breaks target why guard? can never get enough boons lol.
In general, for Duo roaming Mesmer might not be the best choice.
Necromancer lacks couple things in general by design : Mobility, Stability, needs peels to play at maximum effectivenes and in vunerable to focus fire.
Mesmer has strong combat mobility, high burst, but it’s mostly a DPS. You’re not type of peeler nor CC class/booner.
In result you both have very high burst combined, but you won’t be able to support each other in major way, so in outnumbered encounters you might find this comp hard to manage.
It differs from other Mesmer/X comps in one major way – Necromancer is always the focus target. With this comp, you’re not longer the main target as with Thief/Mesmer comp so you can put more pressure by yourself, but you have to keep in mind that even tanky necro will go downed pretty quickly without support, focused in outnumbered.
In general, Shatter Mesmer is strong part of (mostly pvp scenario) trio of healer guardian, condition necro + you.
But foe 2vX for Necromancer I’d suggest taking Guardian, CC Warrior or a Thief.

Humm…
I have noticed he gets consistently focused down and like you said Rym if hes tanky we dont have the damage and eventually they beat him down or the fight draaaaags out if we both go dps like you said we can blow up one or sometimes two really fast but anymore then that and we just get blown up.
I currently have gaurd theif and War at 80. so picking up any of the three shouldn’t be an issue the only real issue is the real lack of play time on them compared to my mes.
I have thought about leveling a ranger or eng as well but aside from Eng’s crazy healing they dont seem to bring anything I cant bring with one of the other classes.
If im on a suport gaurd or a CC war do you think we will have enough damage?
Im leaning tword my tanky CC war but I dont want to be in the same situation as with my Mesmer where i feel that I cant do enough damage to be a threat.
Imo it’s more about player skill than profession or build. Anyone who can pull his own weight will do.
Don’t expect any group support from a necro other than debuffing/blinding/chilling/weakening enemies. If you can stay alive yourself and occasionally rez the necro then the two of you will be fine.
It 100% on what build he is running. Condi Necro needs different things than power, which needs different things than MM.

Tips I’ve listed go for General Mesmer and Necromancer class specification.
Taking builds into consideration would be rather the next step and most of them, at least popular ones, share same disadvantages

Except for Necro having bad mobility, not really.
MMs and tanky builds don’t care about focus fire or peels at all. Stability isn’t always lacking. Don’t always have high burst.
It is 100% on build. A power MM wants a different partner than a glassy condi build. It completely depends on the builds the Necro is running.
Like people have said, it does depend on the build, however, I find that the change of roaming partner does not change significantly. I mean, I have run Condi and power necro with every class but elementalist, and have been able to do serious damage in these scenarios. However, I find that guardian is the best. The main thug is if you let him run ahead of you. Let him leap in, then as an opener, hit then as hard as possible, or, if a Condi necro, spam marks, and get as much Condi on them as possible. They will definitely feel some pressure. As a guard, you are going to want to go as tanky as possible, while maintaining decent dps. This could work with warrior too, just never run with tank war.

I find Warriors to be very good, they are great at catching and slowing down runners, they have great damage potential and decent support. I ran with my Warrior friend last night, during a taking of a camp, we got ambushed by 2 Thieves despite cool downs and skills used we managed to kill one thief and made the other run off.
We did this several times to them and the only time they managed to kill us was when they had a 3 Vs 2 and they focused the hell out of me.
So that worked quite well as a duo
I run both classes with this combination both as a necromancer and mesmer while wvw roaming as of late( learning Shatter has to be painful >.>). it is kinda hard to explain for me but will try… especially when you didn’t specify well which type of builds both of you are currently running/looking to run
If you play with a necromancer partner then make sure to finish the encounter as quick as possible, the longer a fight lasts the worse off your necromancer will be. When fighting outnumbered the harder you make it for the foes to target you the more pressure the necromancer will receive. As a mesmer phantasms and shatters will do the damage for you while you could slip away with blink, blend in with illusions or stealth away to observe the fight and pick your targets safely. At this time the necromancer will be the more obvious target and much easier to pin down and not to mention is the greater threat. The up time on condition application will be low as the necromancer wont be able to apply a large variety of conditions to a target to either burst them down with terror or spread them around as he will be forced to play defensive. sometimes such tactics work except the necro is not built to draw aggro and tank for a long time while you burst but was made to be a back-line caster and is quite susceptible to heavy CC preventing kiting and focus fire which forces the necromancer to use DS more defensively which would deplete it quite fast leaving the necro at a disadvantage the longer the fight lasts. If a necro partner falls you will have problems rezzing; GS 5 doesnt always work as to stomp a necro safely you’d need stability and the other option would be to blow Mass Invisibility but the rezzing part doesn’t get any easier with cleave damage and the fact that the downed state skill 1 is a channeled skill which might break stealth on application if you dont time it right. To make a necromancer work you either end the fight quickly or offer the necromancer what it lacks which is support with either boons or heavy CC to keep people off of him to delay/prevent cleanse/heal and give the conditions the extra few seconds to tick away. for Boons you could go with guardian or even elementalist, for AoE CC warrior and engineer are pretty good and I do recommend them and for burst thieves and mesmers work well but thief works better as they offer more supportive stealth option and burst potential with both Backstabs and venom-share. Also another necro works great with extra fear and epidemics. If I were to rank partners assuimg they run the meta builds I’d go with Warrior, Guardian, Thief, Engineer, Mesmer, Elementalist, Necromancer, Ranger.
Now if you are asking for builds then you might need to be more clear on what needs do you have to determine utilities, damage type preferred, support forms, combos, etc.

I wouldn’t rank Ranger as last imo. If played well, they make great partners for epidemic.
You misunderstand my reasons for the order I chose. Rangers do not offer the necromancer something they lack and as for condition spread other popular condition specs do it better not that the ranger is bad but because of faster application+ condition variety if that is what you aim for.

General options with max synergy pre build: For roaming ele or ranger (epi for condi spread or spirits massing procs on minions), for attacking points probably guard (dat peel boofs), for defense a very nice option is a mesmer (reflects + Lich Wells = bags and bags of 2 silver and wxp).
