Hrmmm…in re-reading the patch notes…it seems as though Torment cannot be removed by any other class…is this correct?
Most other classes have “remove condition” skills or traits that don’t specify what they can remove. My guess is ANet didn’t specifically mention that all those can remove Torment because Torment is a condition and interactions like those shouldn’t need to be mentioned.
This is the way I read it as well. I bet Consume Conditions has a list of conditions it will remove, and the patch note was the addition of Torment to that list.
I really hope I am reading this correctly…because that would really give us a hand up in fighting all of the other classes…which have waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more mobility than us…
Bah, they had to go and fix chillblains cast time, I’m already buggering up my queue from being used to it being fast.
with 200 healing power, my vampiric is doing:
28 damage, 27 healing.
and traited with 50% im doing;
42 damage, 41 healing.
That is very strange, I’ll need to look into mine.
So, I’m healing for 30 per hit now… something is bugged about this trait, but I don’t know what yet.

Yo, gonna get me some of that signet of spite action. Gonna drop signet of undeath for a bit and see if two condition epidemic nukes (corrupt boon + signet of spite) could do some serious work in battles.
we still have reanimator and poth, no increased default mark size, awful cast times and no heal in DS…..aww, come on!
btw, has anyone tested yet if you can dodge through spectral wall?

No you can’t dodge through it and it fears away from the wall.
with 200 healing power, my vampiric is doing:
28 damage, 27 healing.
and traited with 50% im doing;
42 damage, 41 healing.
Same here but with 300 HP. Overall i’m pretty please by the patch axe #3 is sweet with the boon strip.
Edit : Forgot to said that underwater DS#1 is totally hot now.

As a necro who is finally learning how to utilize DS properly, this is the change that excites me the most (in addition to the new skill, of course). The question is will the damage boost be noticeable; anyone online now have thoughts on this?

It also had a buff on range. Definitely a great buff, no question.
I had a 5k crit on a guy today in PvP, never had it before.

Death Shroud is brutal now. Place wall behind, torment, fear through wall.
We are going to be annoying as all get out now. People will hate us, maybe as much as mesmer. Heck I fought some 1v1s today pre-patch, and the guy hated how much CC I had already.
Can’t figure out if I want burning or not though, lol.
This is exactly what I was thinking, basically a roamer power build. Drop a wall, DS5, fear them then switch to dagger spam for 5 seconds while they run around. Then golem charge and bone fiend attack while you spam them with dagger 1. That would be like a 10 second lockdown. haha

So the burning says it applies for 4 seconds, but to get it, you have to have 30 trait points in the Spite line. Does that mean that the base amount will be 5.2 seconds? Also, do crits from life transfer apply burning?

If I understand the change & numbers correctly, it’s the same damage within 600 as it was before at over 50% life force. For my build though, (Axe mainhand 24/7) sticking within 600 is not a problem. Occasionally, staying over 50% life force was, (Taking a hit while casting, for example) so I’m viewing this as a buff.
This is the best necro patch and the worst necro nerf (other than beta) ever!
Best necro patch because it has now opened a lot of new possibilities and boosted many things that needed some love.
The worst nerf for the nerf to corrupt boon! Our signature in tournaments, why?! WHY?!
What I’m really curious about with the burning trait is if it applies like the Water Ele 30 trait where it can happen for a single skill then goes on ICD or whether it applies to a single target and goes on ICD.
Example: If you aren’t on burn ICD and you use Putrid Mark and it crits on 4 enemies in the AOE, do each get the burn and then it goes on ICD after that skill? Or does only 1 of the 4 at random get the burn and then it goes on ICD? This is kind of make or break for how valuable it is.

And can anyone give me a reason why anyone will use Life Transfer over DS 5 now?

Ok so recap: More viable builds, stronger fear builds, melee buff, they kinda killed our only ranged power source, they kinda killed double LF spam in DS, but let lf generation via effects and we got a better siphon… so essencially nothing happened except DS5.

I just had a ranger or a thief jump into my spectral wall 3 times ahahahahaha.
Now I got condi damage with 1,5 k+ life blasts constantly critting cause of deathly perception and LF generation with DS sustain through spectral walk and armor ha ha ha ha.
I wont have to change my spec at all… its just better

Torment lasts for 10 seconds base duration, I think. So there’s a lot of time to epidemic it. You can DS → 5 → DS and finish casting epidemic before Tainted Shackles finishes. And if you time it properly that also means using epidemic on an immobilize. (I think it’s 2 seconds long?)
Nothing* breaks the 5 target limit. It’s like the first law of battle dynamics or something.
*Walls do because they aren’t affecting 5 targets simultaneously.

Step 2: press 5
Step 3: Exit DS
Step 4: Press Epidemic
Step 5: Congratulations, now you can get 6 torment stacks on a group of mobs.
Bonus Step: Use Life Transfer on Tainted Shackle Cooldowns to be really kittening cool mwhahaha.

Ah that’s true. I was thinking the ICD would apply on a per-player basis, but I guess it would not. So you could apply burning to only 1 enemy every 10 seconds (unless you epidemic it). Definitely has a huge impact on whether it is worth it to go for this trait.

Yes, yes but the internal cooldown means that you’ll only get the burning on one target.

Could be true. I made 30/20/10/0/10 condi build with 4 Runes of Nightmare and 2 Lysa, and it’s really melting ppl down. Easy to maintain high amounts of different conditions to cover burning/bleeding/poison, as you get 50% condi duration, and with torment + epidemic, it’s making huuuge condi spikes, especially if you use a fear to counter their healing. I’m experimenting with using spectral skills for better survivability, along with epidemic, since CB and signet got nerfed.
I’ve tried using new Spectral Wall, and it can definitely be useful, especially if you get 20% cd on spectral skills, but I’m still not sure if I want to use it.
Spectral armor is great on the other hand, again, with 20% cd. With Spectral Walk, you now got 2 stunbreakers, along with high swiftness uptime on 48 sec cd, which is a huge improvement to our survivability.
Still want to create a power build for 90% crit change in ds, which coupled with Life Blast buff, along with might stacking and piercing, can get pretty nasty, at least in theory.
Full knights armor, 2x cavalier acc and amulet, 2 knight rings.
I tried a few builds including 30 in soul reaping. I quickly found my so far favorite.
30/20/0/0/20
focused talisman, axe training and dhuumfire
weakening shroud and terror
either spectral mastery or path of midnight and master of terror.
I use axe/focus and first tried dagger/wh (or dagger) but have switched for a more defensive set. Now I use axe/focus and scepter/dagger for cripple and 5+ sec poison :P
Consume, wall, spectral walk and locust, plague.

A little disappointed by the shorter duration on Spectral Wall, but definitely still a massive improvement to what it was! One problem for me though is I’m colourblind so I can’t tell apart my own Wall from the enemy Necro’s. Is there meant to be a red outline when it’s an enemy wall? Cause I can’t see anything!
Another thing I like is how well fear synergises with torment, especially now that we have another source of aoe fear with spectral wall (and possibly well of corruption if you get lucky): forced movement ensures they’ll be taking the higher damage.

The funny thing about is, people always move, regardless of conditions. Maybe in a while they will stop with the new condi, but in the next couple of days I can guarantee that there will be people who just run and run
But it’s a good combination, DS#2 to DS#5 and finish with DS#4 is just lots of dmg
