Pathetic minion AI
What bothers me more, is that they draw aggro from a monster in miliseconds even though i am clearly doing the majority of the damage myself.
The mobs prefer to move in order to attack one of my minions that focus on me stabing them with my dagger.
Everybody know that minions/pets have AI problems, in upcomming patch they have improved it a bit (don’t get your hopes to high).
This is the reason why so many necros is pvp using them.

Didn’t they specifically said the AI fixes during their Ranger talk?
Didn’t hear any mention this also counted for Necro Minions.
All pets have same AI.
I don’t believe this. Not even for a second.
You don’t have to, the diffrence is that Necro pets have more states as rangers, but basicly it is the same

I really doubt.
Most others pet work correctly.
Ranger pet have some issue with attacking on the move, but that’s about it. Never had any AI issue with spirit weapon on guardian, or phantasm clone on mesmer.
I’m pretty sure it’s not the same AI.

Thats because they have much less state’s. My guess is that the issue is somewhere in in switching between then. Why do they made more State Machiens/ behavior trees if all pets have same basic class? Pointless isn’t it ?!)

Bone minions still fail to engage when I use axe auto attack. They also did a lot of their testing in the mists, where these bugs occur a lot less frequently.

There solution doesn’t work. And like the guy before me said, they tested it in the mist.
If I remember correctly, the solution was to auto attack.

The video was done in Orr, so regardless of where it was tested, we showed it to work outside of the mist. WvW they seem to bug more often.

They don’t work 100% of the time, as much as I wish they did. They get stuck on pathing issues every so often (I caught flesh golem getting stuck on the way up to treb on Khylo on video).
Alright, thanks for the additional info all. My understanding was incorrect. I do WvW a lot and have experimented using minions in my utility slots, but I haven’t done a full minion build since I hit 80.

Adjusted ranger pet AI when fighting enemies in PvE. Melee pets now attempt to move behind enemies as long as they are not actively being targeted by the creature.
So i guess, not all pets have the same AI eh?
It’s pathing issues, and not AI that cause a majority of the issues with pet AI. The same thing is absolutely true with Spirit weapons, they just have less of an obvious glitch because they are usually right next to you.
AI is not an issue, pathing is. When the pathing screws up, the minion stops attacking. This is why you can go 500 hours in pve and rarely see them not fight, it’s also why in all the MY MINION SUCKS videos you always see the ranged pets doing fine. Shadow Fiend should never be used right now. HE has zero health, pathing issues bug him out more often than even the flesh golem.
Bone minions should only be summoned to be destroyed. I did a dungeon stream with guru last night and I brought Minions into fractals. They did better than I did :P. They lived through 75 percent of the encounters, and only bugged out once. We did Fractals lvl 10 so there was some Agony, but it never even affected them. In fact, in several cases, the minions where amazing because they took the damage away from us.
TLDR: Minion AI is not an issue. Pathing for NPC related summoning skills is the issue. The major problem is pathing. It will always be a problem. You notice it less with Spirit weapons because they are attached to you on a shorter leash. You notice it less with clones because you can resummon them quickly. You notice it less on Rangers because you have active buttons.
