Power Necromancer 0% Life Force WvW Duels
I never liked using Plague Form in 1on1s because it felt too strong. It looked like you had to use it against all of the classes/builds that I would normally stack LF while roaming for, because those are the only ones I’d ever really see.
The duel you lost within seconds against the Thief is why I personally wouldn’t do this. Kudos to finding a thing you enjoy, as I also typically like adapting my playstyle to new situations. I just would have a hard time forcing myself to use something like Plague Form in those 1v1 scenarios to compensate for the extra poor situations that result.

I liked the part when you tried to protect yourself from the warrior with Berserker Stance with Spectral Wall, which actually made him hesitate and use Balanced Stance before going through.
@life force:
The amount of lf and whether or not to use food or even the Flesh Golem is a matter of courtesy. People duel because they want to have fair fights, not because they want to win at all cost. So naturally you won’t need any life force against some opponents, maybe because they are weaker than you or maybe because their class/build makes it easy to generate it early on.
However, if we’re talking equal skill and/or against classes that will opend with strong bursts against you (thief, power ranger, fresh air eles…) you might as well start with half of your hp if you decide not to have any life force at the start.
So just adept to your opponents and start with some life force if necessary.
@gameplay, appart from some skill timings, I’ve noticed one thing. You usually control your camera angle with your mouse near your character. Sometimes when you use marks (or other groundtargeted skills) you first activate the skill, then drag you mouse forward until you reach your opponent. It kinda looks like a back and forth sometimes. I know that’s just a really minor thing but you could save some reaction time by moving your mouse closer to your opponent right away.

@ Cagbyrn Yep at some classes I had to adjust the utility to compensate the lack of LF.
And as for the thief burst I agree that was also the reason why I start with LF before a duel. But after playing necromancer almost everyday I wanted to try 0% lf it is a lot harder to play but definitely fun. As for roaming I always stack 100% lf XD you never know who want to jump on you while roaming.
@Flow Thanks for the detailed awnser and tip Aflow :P You are one of my Necromancer Trainers ingame!! but you know that already ^^.
Aflow the camera tip is amazing but to be honest it is kinda a automatic thing after doing that for so long and it will take a lot of effort to force me to place the mouse at the enemy xD but indeed amazing tip. (the memory is kinda built in my hand it will automatically go to my character instead of enemy even though my brain tells me to place it at the enemy :P).
As for the camera angle I’m wondering is there a key that I can pres so that the camera turn 180 degree? So 1 push on button instant camera turn?

Not by default, but you can bind one. Mine is C, and I have About Face as X. Still haven’t trained myself to use them, though.
25% is the dueling standard in sanctum?
I always heard that (20% is the golden standard we all agree in pvp) and in wvw its 50% due to higher stats aka higher opening bursts.
@Drarnor Kunoram.5180 It is not ingame settings right? I looked trhere but could not find an option.
@Flumek.9043 I don’t know the exact same amount but in OS it was the same rule as in sPvP so 20% then sure also good :P because when I had small amount of lf I can use my fear chain a bit better than with 0% lf.
But in WvW Obsidian Sanctum (but in WvW roaming go all the way to 100% xD) 50% is too high in my opinion I still remember when anet added an arena in OS. And every necro there started with 100% lf (at the start when anet added the arena).
Even with higher stats etc 50% is too high so I would say the same rule as in spvp should be good in OS too. And of course you yourself can decide to play with or without food buff. I stopped playing with food because I’m saving money for expansion xD You know new class needs some gold too :P (armor weapons etc).
But 1 thing is sure after playing 0% lf I really starting to appreciate the staff 1 skill. Don’t know if with an condi built will benefit from staff 1 because my dmg is around 1k (but to built up lf it is amazing).
Options→Control options→
- Movement for About Face
- Camera Options for look behind
I also got my “swim down” and “look behind” keys mixed up.
@Drarnor Kunoram.5180
I see it tyvm now I need to find a good key to bind and get used to it XD
about the swimming down part pls xD I don’t know how fast I want to get out of the water in wvw I really do not like water at all xD
If you’re playing Necro in WvW, you’d best learn to love it. Nobody is on par with a Necro underwater, and we’re the only profession that can reliably kill Rangers there.

Seriously, this. I was jumped by a Warrior and a Thief once, and I jumped into the water. They followed me. I proceeded to manhandle them even from half health. It’s hilarious watching a Thief try to play Underwater after they rock their D/P.
In short, if you’re wondering why, the crux of it (in my opinion) is that your Life Blast turns into a machine gun and it transfers 1 condition every time it hits. You have CC, can pull yourself to targets, can drop an AoE chill nuke after it charges up, etc. It’s really, really good.

When a Thief ask me to start with no LF in a Duel, I tell him sure if u dont Steal in first 10sec…

Alternatively, you could ask him to start with 0 initiative, though even that would be easier for him to deal with.

@Drarnor Kunoram.5180 I still don’t like underwater battle so I rather avoid it XD
@Ravezaar.4951 haha yeah if they have your fear and you have no life force you will be dead very fast :P
As you could see I use some different utilities vs thief’s for stun break and getting them away from me with spectral wall.
Guild Wars 2 is not balanced around 1v1 and personally, I don’t ever ask people to not use something. Don’t stomp when the duel is over and that’s the only rule I think they should have. Telling people not do things like telling a Necromancer they can’t duel with more than 25%+ LF is just a way to make the fight easier for you. If you learn how to deal with fights that are an uphill battle it’ll make you a better player in the end. Thus, if someone asks me to drain my LF, tough sh_t I’m not going to, the same way I’m not going to tell a Ranger not to kite me.

Yeah you are right but after joining in OS for so many times I do respect the normal rules for 1 vs 1 that the majority use in OS as for necromancers it was like the same lf as in sPvP 1 vs 1 arena. As for food buff everyone can decide them their self.
Since most of the players that are in OS at least the server where I’m in Desolation we get match up against almost the same servers every single week with exact the same people in OS waiting for their Q to pop or they just want to duel.
Personally I find 100% lf at the start of a duel a bit overpowered in 1 vs 1 (and in the servers we are in the majority of the players agree with the sPvP 1 vs 1 rules for necromancers). So i find 20 or 25% ok (i think it was 20% lf for sPvP not sure).
As you said every player can decide what they want to do in OS. Want to start with 100% lf then go ahead. I’m not going to argue with what you should or should not do.
But what I do want to know is, if you guys have tried to duel in OS with 0% lf and what your guys opinion is about it (condi or power). Since I had a lot of fun with starting at 0% lf I do recommend the ones that haven’t done that yet to try it them self and see how fun it is and they can learn how to manage his or her own life force pool and how to maintain and build lf.
