I’m thinking of leveling a Necromancer for WvW.
There is support on these forums for a power Necro in WvW.
The question: why play a power Necromancer over a thief?
Both use a main hand dagger, with the power necro can sometimes use 2 dagger as a Thief.

Reason asking is, I have a level 80 thief already.
Would this be a waste of time?

My build tends to burn most thieves down. The ones that get me wait for the cherry pick or a well coordinated team of thieves own me when they keep me feared. I have a lvl 62 thief and can’t seem to get into the play style. My necro is my main love.

Because its a different playstyle. If you are mostly into roaming i’d suggest sticking with thief, necro lacks disengages.
In smaller groups/ skirmishing scenarios power nec is fun, though you can get similar results with a thief.

Why is this even a question?

Necro is only good/great for team fights for boon stripping, garbage for PvE.

Thief is mostly good for roaming, bad/inefficient for team fights (of more than 5 people), and decent at PvE (only warrior does more damage in PvE, but thief utility like shadow refuge is potent especially in fractals and a venom share build with basilisk is very strong as well).

They’re good, but they are very different from a thief. Level one if you have the time, both are viable. The most significant difference though is that it’s much harder for a necro to disengage from/avoid a fight.

I agree. Once a necro enters battle you are commited.
