Abelia – Necromancer
Revenant – Thief
I’m currently running the Abomination/Juggermancer mix.
I’ve seen a lot of comments about “power” builds as I’m looking to do a little more DPS but stay tanky.
Any links for builds that are that way?
Thanks!
power builds generally arent tanky
Its not that they can’t be, its that the popular ones aren’t. That doesn’t mean you can’t make tanky ones. I’ll put up the build I use later on.
A power build that is tanky would be the abomination build you’re using. Generally power builds for dps run beserker gear. So power precision and crit damage.
Could you do a mix of Soldiers gear and Zerks gear?
Even if not, Can someone link a good power build?
Knight armor/ruby orb + Berserker or Cavalier trinket and berserker weapons and mix and match those 3 until you find your happy tanky place.
An example build that I use.
Power builds are usually with dagger main hand and focus/warhorn/dagger offhand. You want to go 30 points into spite for the power but then after that if you want survivability/tankiness you can either go into blood magic for life siphoning traits and use vampirism runes or you can go into soul reaping and focus on life force regen so you can use DS to tank a lot of damage. Not gonna be guardianesque tankiness but it’s not bad – of course you probably sacrifice some damage this way.
I appreciate all the feedback.
I have a post if you check http://tinyurl.com/bmj3ann its not berserker

Is my current build, can be pretty sturdy if minions are attacking (Lots of life siphoning)
A tanky “Maximum Power” build that I ran whilst leveling and getting used to Power Necro
Then of course there are other builds possible with Valkyrie/Knights etc gear and various trait setups
What I’m currently running. Can play around with armor, swap it to knights for example.
Mainly use Death Shroud for damage mitigation and generally staying mobile and dodging when needed helps, too.
I did some theorycrafting on it as well, like getting full knight set with some trait modifications, allowing you to keep high power but getting more toughness or vitality (whichever you prefer). I just like running 30 in Soul Reaping for the stability and critical damage.
EDIT: I forgot to ask if you were focusing on WvWvW or just PvE. The difference is, in PvE, high toughness can become a bit of a curse, considering it appears to be one of the causes for high agro. There are a lot of rabid necromancers who are having issues with that. If this is the case, going for more vitality (and siphonfocus from traits, might be more beneficial). If the main focus is WvWvW, then knight stats would be nicer, as you get high toughness, decent crit rate and can still hit pretty heavily.

I can’t speak higher if a 10/20/10/0/30 build— it’s what I use 100% of the time. Axe/Dagger + Staff for PvE and Axe/Focus + Staff for PvP/WvW/Champions.
I have access to perma Fury, 20 seconds of Protection every 32 (Spectral Wall), perma AoE weakness (dagger offhand + Weakening Shroud), perma Swiftness, and can choose between 80%+ uptime on retaliation or very good Might stacking. For WvW and PvP you switch weakness for Chill. And then there’s the ability to quickly reach 25 stacks of Vulnerability on top of all that.
You want a power tank? I feel like spectral skills and this spread are optimal. I use Spectral Grasp or BiP, Spectral Wall, and Spectral Walk for utilities.

Full Knight’s with some zerker or valk jewels, 30 points in SR, and spectral skills will make you the hard-hitting yet tough necro you’re looking for. Confusion mesmers are a huge pain, but hey, can’t have everything.
There’s room to tinker with the different weapons, too, so use what you like.
