Power necro vs guardian
It might be an issue of build vs build (guardians are in general quite easy for necros, but power builds don’t bring that in).
What I would suggest is to bring Well of Corruption, and using a huge burst with Well of Suffering, Well of Corruption, Focus 4 (maybe 5 as well if you need more boon stripping), and then blow them up with your dagger. Guardian’s without boons up are fairly weak to burst because of the generally low HP margin they have to work with. So I’d just suggest seeing if you can go a bit more towards burst/lockdown, this should help out for ele’s as well, and since those classes are big in the current meta, you need to be able to deal with them.
Power builds actually work really well against guardians if you get the right abilities.
1) Get the sigil that rips boons 60 percent chance on crit :P.
2) have staff or axe/focus for secondary when you need to get away or can’t do damage. Drop the marks under them if carrying staff.
3) When they drop their symbol (can be really powerful) swap to ds fear them out of it than use DS 2 to close the gapp and slow them proceed to pound them. Swap to dagger and whack a mole.
4) when they drop the next symbol (only dps guardians can really hurt with these) roll out swap to ds and blow him up.
5) If he uses GS 5 dodge the recall and keep hitting with staff, when ds is full jump to ds and hit him.
6) when you are out of ds at 50 percent (Never stay in ds past 50 percent unless you have to eat damage) swap to dagger and hammer away.
Most guardian died when i well bombed them so i can’t really help you on this one. Have you tried using well of corruption + focus skills against one? It really hurts them generally.
If you fail the anti boon part you will indeed suffer to bring them down.
I’m playing my Guardian again actually since my fear/condition necro got borked with the patch. I’ve been mowing through necros all night. Burning is generally a byproduct and won’t tell you anything about their spec. Unless they are blatantly tankey or heal/support most of the better ones are specced for some offense, toughness, lots of retaliation and boon duration. This is difficult for a lot of classes to deal with because even if you strip retal they have several ways to get it back on. As per above Well of Corruption hurts and dagger is good because it heals you and is steady damage so won’t destroy you when retal is up. Ultimately the key to beating the best Guardians with these kinds of specs is to out tankey them.
Corrupt boon and Well of Corruption are good to have equipped against a guardian. Anybody who uses Save Yourselves does themselves in.
My 1vs1 against tank guards have been epic grindfests usually but I end up winning them due to a greater burst and health pool. Against glassier guardians I usually win inside 30 seconds. They generally feel they can out-melee anybody and will facetank, only to realize all their big attacks are being interrupted or absorbed by death shroud, while I keep hacking away with the dagger.
I played a guard for 6 months which makes it easier for me to deal with them. Ranged and cc options are limited and many of the attacks can be avoided by simply moving in and out of range.
Both had wrong skills equipped and it wasn’t exactly my best fight but here is one example:
