Whats the best weapon for a full power build?

There’s a few choices, if you’re concentrating on shroud, then axe with axe mastery is a good start. Dagger is better damage at melee range however.

But will my damage fall much if i stay with axe?

What is your focus as a power build? For me in WvW I find axe better because of axe #3, that with warhorn #5 pared with plague form or even in DS adds a good amount of extra damage. Plus the little bit of extra range gives you a bit of a buffer so you don’t need to stand in damage to attack. But in the end Dagger will do more damage if your able to sit there and dps. For PvE I would assume Dagger is the better choice but thats assuming your able to stand in melee range. Lower dps from range is better then no damage because you can’t stand by the mob.

Use both. Axe for DS. Dagger for rest. In pve, I don’t see the necessity to use staff as second weapon even it has such great utility. (but of course keep a copy in inventory for situation you need to 1200 things)

It really depends on what you’re doing.

Dagger auto has the best single-target damage just sitting and pressing 1.

DS#1 is pretty close to the dagger at sub-600 range and not too far off from 601-1200. It can also hit multiple targets if you trait for it, (in which case it deals way more damage than Dagger 1).

Axe deals pretty low damage compared to Dagger and DS#1, but you don’t have to spend as much time dodging as the Dagger and spamming #2 off cooldown can generate a good amount of Life Force to power DS spam. Depending on how you play and what you’re doing, switching between Axe and DS can have the best DPS.

Staff #1 deals quite low single-target damage but is AoE and thus beats out the Axe in total damage if you can send it through a group. It also generates LF like crazy.

All three off-hand options can work for power builds. Dagger is the defensive option, Focus probably has the most damage, and the interrupt + sticking power from Warhorn can be invaluable.

I’d reccomend dagger for its raw DPS and the occasionally usefulness of imobolize, with any of the offhands like the guy above said (I go with WH personally since I find that moving faster in melee range helps a lot to lockdown opponents).

I normally ran axe/focus in the offhand for single target DPS and boon removal mid range, but the AoE is still pretty bad, so I’m switching to staff for more utility, AoE, and the blast finisher and subbing dagger for axe during situations where I can’t melee.

Focus #4 and Axe#2 are a nice opener with good Lifeforce generation….followed by DS #3 and DS#1…then use DS #2 to get close.
Dagger is nice to finish off the target…#3 #5 stay in range and #1 dmg spam…. if your target is still alive…

I play mainly WvW with this setup but it works well for CoF or Arah….

I always have a Staff in my Backpack for situation i need AoE a lot…. i drop dagger/WH then..

Yes, i’ve been a long time dagger user, and when I switched to axe the #1 is pathetic in comparison. However given that #2 is actually more damage and using the other abilities in between (#1 just for more vulnerability), and the fact that I need to dodge attacks A LOT less, even in PVE I am killing much harder mobs than I could before. Fully kiting champs is possible taking no damage. With all the factors added up I’m doing better with axe traited, but I do miss daggers burst and immob in pvp.
