Pros and cons of a Necro?
Necros are strong in WvW, and good/ok in pvp. Not very good in pvp. Strengths are usually Tanky in small groups/solo pvp play (but probably not against organized teams), strong offense and not worrying about conditions. Cons would be a lack of mobility, escapes, and powerful damage mitigation like blocks or evades. Positioning is very key.
Right now group utility is very low compared to the good support classes, but post patch we might have some strong healing capability, but that remains to be seen.
Necro is unwanted in pve due to its selfish nature. After the patch it will have more healing but necro already had decent group healing. And healing is not needed/bad to focus on in pve.
The things necro should provide in pve to pull their weight are cc, chill, weakness and vuln. Blinds and condition removal can also help. All these things can be covered by other classes for less sacrifice which is why necro is pretty much never wanted in pve. It can work nicely but its the least useful class of the lot. And if you are picking a party composition you would never take necro if you had free choice.
Necros are not ideal in PVE no, do they function perfectly well however? Yes they do, and most pugs (that I have run with anyways) won’t give a kitten if you are condi necro. Can’t comment on power necro, as I don’t enjoy it myself.
In PvP/WvW I condi necro to be the most enjoyable of the classes. You can’t escape with a kitten , but your goal is to not have to.

Are you tripping?
CC- fear chaining provides one of the longest CC chains in game. It can reduce defiant to tiny stacks in no time flat.
Chill-you gotta be kidding?..necro has the most chill in game
Weakness_ You’re kidding again?..necro has the most weakness in game. Especially when you know which boon, corrupt boons alter states to weakness. We also have weakness on some the fastest cool downs
Vulnerability-you absolutely are joking now..one of our main hand weapons causes vulnerability by simply auto attacking.
My hybrid necro on channeled attacks and life blasts can match thief backstabs and with one weapon swap also produce conditions on maximum DoT damage. With signet swaps and trait swaps out of combat I can pull every condition off allies over time and remove them easily with life blasts or killing mobs. I can convert all conditions to boons, I stack maximum vulnerably. I Blind entire mobs or weaken them.
Being ultimately familiar with all dungeon/fractal content is key. As a necro I swap traits multiple times in every dungeon/content area or depending on roaming party. Out of my guardian/ele/thief/warrior/mesmer none of them can boost as much utility as necro can with swapping gear/traits/weapons for each segment of content or purpose. I truly believe you need to explore your necro a lot more if you think they’re a entirely selfish profession. All of this i can achieve with a hybrid necro at no sacrifice.

I said those are things necro can provide to help pull their weight. Yes necro has good access to cc for removing defiant but many necros tend to use fear and spread mobs out which is bad. Weakness can be done better by warriors and thieves or by using a consumable. Most mobs dont have boons to corrupt. Vuln can be done better by ele, thief and engi. Necro does have the best access to chill but thats not the most useful or widely used control condition in high end pve.
Necros are fairly decent for fractals but the lack of group buffing is what makes them selfish and is the reason i rarely take mine over the ele (which can do everything necro can do and more).
In response to your last statement. That just seems as though you dont know guard/ele/thief/warrior/mesmer very well. As they can all provide more meaningful utility than necro. I would know, i play all these classes in high level pve. Necro is my main but im fully aware of its position compared to the other classes and I wont allow myself to be fooled just because its my favourite class.

Agree with Spoj2 – No one really cares about fear anymore in PvE. Using it to spread out mobs wnd waste another job’s cleave can be almost as irritating as lonbow ranger’s pushback.
Necro has a few useful skills. WoP can flip condi’s and weapon skills can transfer them. AoE can draw multiple targets. Chill, blind, and cripple AoE are good CC when there are lots of low value targets. Epidemic can wipe a boss’ adds. Necro is good in underwater battles.
However, when it comes to high-value, single-target CC, conditions, and dps…
pros:
some serious damage output, both condition and dps, ~2 hp bars, kind of. condition transfer(epic lols against confusion engineers)
cons: no mobility, little group support options, no long range power weapon, no good access to stability.

U watched too much Nemesis videos. Pls play what u want to play. But don´t tell lies.
Thief does more then 15k dps fullbuffed. Not burst, not a single skill, a rotation doable the whole fight long.
Even with a 6k Bleedingtick u wouldn´t match this with a Axe/Sc/DS Hybridmancer, and u can´t have 6k bleedingticks as a hybrid.
