Pure minion based weapon
One minion on a weapon is good. If it’s on a two-handed weapon, then I would like to see two minion skills on that weapon and no others.
The main thing to remember is that right now a necro can make himself extremely durable to AoE with the minions he can already get. Every AoE hit on a minion master with his clumped minions only has about a 5/7 chance of even hitting the necro (5/8 if they picked up a jagged horror). A necro with, say, 10 minions only has a 50/50 shot at even being hit by AoE when in his army. We are the only class in the game that can use the AoE cap to our advantage while solo. Too many more minions may cause the MM to be unbalanced in the wrong direction.
Don’t forget that many minions will probably die to that aoe. Think of MMs as a burst/tank class. We are most powerful with all our minions out, but once they start dying off both dps and tanking ability start to drop off.
I think another consideration is simply that ANet doesn’t seem to want a gameplay where the person does nothing directly themselves. I think 1-2 minions on an off-hand is fine, 1-2 minions on a supportive weapon where the minions aren’t so important as their actives are, is fine. But an entire weapon that is all minions and minion support just doesn’t fit with what they want I don’t think.
I was looking at it form a pve perspective. And more based on keeping minions up and battling vs them getting oneshot over and over while you have very little control over it.(someone might come on here and say minions arent pets and supposed to die). But i wanted to look at different approach to them, more like ur team of summons vs disposable utility. From a pvp perspective i would say too many minions would b over the top. Especially with the current targeting system. But i wouldnt think that in pve, pve/pvp split mayb?
Getting way too deep into mechanics tho lol. Really i wanted to know what necros would think of a pure MM weapon?

i agree, and i wouldnt want the weapon to be cheeseball ez/total gimmick. More like its up to you activate the key minion skills. You need to choose wisely wen to activate aoe immunity. or mayb a skill that removes conditions from your minions(i think this would help MM’s a lot). idk somehow they should def put more interactive play into a pure MM weapon.
They could certainly make it happen and have it be fun with interesting minion actives (if they added in a few more minions I could completely see it being fun), but I just don’t think its what they want in the game. I could see complete minion off-hand weapons, or a two handed weapon with 2 skills that are minions and then more supporty main hand/1-3 skills for a 2hander to complement. I just don’t necessarily see them have 1-0 skills all being minion summons or minion-supporting (not saying that is what you meant).
In the end it falls down to: is the gameplay interactive and really fun for both sides? If they can make that happen, do it.
I think the most likely skill we’d see on a weapon that summons a minion would just summon a jagged horror. That way, when we swap weapons, we don’t lose it.
Jagged Horrors are actually pretty good, people just don’t like Reanimator because of when it gets summoned relative to when it would be useful.
I’d love an ability that only summoned jagged horrors; as in no secondary active, just a CD based ability that summons another Jagged horror, up to some max. But I still think it could work, but they’d need to be smart about it.
A weapon that summons jagged horrors would be cool. I think the Axe is supposed to be our “MM synergy” weapon, but we’ll see what Anet decides to do.
One things for sure, if we do get a weapon that summons minions, it would need to be designed in a way that another spec would want to use it.

Yeah, I also think they should add a trait to when you dodge you summon a minion…. Maybe only be allowed 3 minions at a time?
