PvE Solo Necro versus Elementalist
I’m sure ele is fine for solo pve, but it really shines in group play. Necro, however, with or without minions is pretty beast for solo pve while also being solid in group play thanks to the addition of reaper. For instance, when I was getting the hero points for reaper in the HoT zones I used a zerk D/wh with minions and facerolled just about every champ mob.
Honestly, it’s just a matter of habits.
I always play with staff as an Ele and the survival rate is good enough to rival a necromancer that do the same job. The point is that the staff elementalist will pass through the hardship thanks to it’s DPS, controle ability and tons of additional healing skills while the Necromancer will relied on it’s natural resilience and ocasionnaly the support granted by it’s summons.
The real advantage of the elementalist over the necromancer is that it’s aoe abilities last way longer than that of the necromancer. Which mean that you can usually tag more mobs as an elementalist than as a necromancer.
NB.: I just never use staff as a necromancer, It’s a slow and pretty inconvenient weapon.
While minions aren’t MLG-pro build, the amount of cheese it brings allows you to run solo PVE even while asleep. Nothing beats it, and it’s not a question of using staff. I use scepter from my regular condi build, and it’s still faceroll
Necromancers are very durable, and reapers are even more durable. I haven’t played an elementalist, but I know how squishy they can be. I suppose if you want to feel rewarded for playing skillfully, then roll an elementalist. If you want to play the game while watching netflix/taking a nap, roll a necromancer.

Sounds about right Lawl
Anyone else see any advantage for running an elementalist over a necromancer when running solo PvE?
None ….
Necro’s are more flexible to the situation having a weapon swap, more diversity with builds, can tailor their traits to balance offense/defense how you see fit and have easier skills management.
For the simple reason that necros got minions, they will have a way easier time doing the harder PvE champs while a 10k hp berzerker ele will just flop over.
Why are you even camping the staff and with four minions out?
minions, easy self might, vuln, gravedigger, well aoe, strong cc.
staff ele isn’t good for soloing I found. mobs just move too much. And you can’t just run in like a necro. I recommend fresh air overload for solo.

I don’t give a kitten about DPS (I am perfectly happy with my killing speed) but additional healing? My life siphon Dagger Necro is laughing so hard. I barely lose HP. Also, for mob tagging, I have the Staff (full AoE with huge radius, #1 pierces, #2 with only 4 sec cd), 3 wells (more like 4 because all of my wells siphon and therefore deal some damage) + piercing / AoE shroud skills… If that is not enough for tagging, then you’re doing it wrong. Also, Necro has twice the Ele’s HP AND an extra HP bar in shroud. I geared my Necro tanky and I’m invincible. I don’t even use Reaper or minions.
Ele does way more damage. Necro is easier. Ele is pretty risky in some places. Necro isnt. Using staff on necro is completely useless unless you are literally only using it to tag. You get more damage and the same safety by using any of the better weapons.
Alternatively you could run d/w tempest and have much better survivability and much better damage than staff except on large hit box situations. Or the classic d/f ele which was lower damage but generally accepted as the better build for soloing more dangerous and chaotic content for both survivability and damage reasons (lava font isnt so great on moving targets).
@Mea
You obviously have no intention of moving away from what you have decided to play despite reasons given. I dont see why you are even in this thread.

I responded to a post I didn’t agree with based on my Necro experiences, I don’t understand your problem. However, I’m sorry if I offended someone with my post. Peace!
HoT solo exploring seems fine for both Ele and Necro, though staff on Necromancer only seems good for drawing aggro and minions offer safety.
Groups still favor Ele for its dps, boons, burning, and spike heals. Also, in older open world PvE, Ele is best, IMO. Necromancer works, too, of course, but is bad in older group content.
I still run Necromancer in Orr zergs but set up for Spectral skills and Transfusion because dps is less important than constantly res’ing enthusiastic zerkers getting downed by AoE. On HoT zergs, I do much the same thing, abandoning minions for more precise utilities and Transfusion.
