I am looking for an up to date necro mancer pve build I am new to the game and this is my first class. Does race matter much for it? I tend to solo alot more I am still level 20 and tend to die alot because of my gear. What would you guys recommend i do for leveling gear?

in pve what matters is damage – kill fast or be killed. so go for power/precision/ferocity stats.
well of suffering will burst enemies down.
most of the minions are useless.
signet of spite passively increases power.
blood is power gives you might.
if you want minions then the healing one and flesh golem (elite) are dps boosts (though lich form elite skill deals more damage overall)

When leveling, not much but power, toughness, and vitality are effective. Experienced players go mostly for power because they understand the mechanics and can mitigate risk. Choose your own blend.

You will level quickly so will usually have mismatched armor and equipment. Don’t sweat the details and enjoy the story. Learn the weapon skills and traits. That is far more important than having an optimal build.

Do everything. There is no real penalty for dying but learning the profession and game mechanics should be your priority.

Senpai, at low and mid levels, you cannot get enough precision to critical hit with any regularity. Both of those stats are poor investments compared to straight power improvements until you get closer to 80. You can watch those stats in your Hero panel.

In general, any utility that gives power or high damage is good but consider also Signet of the Locust for constant 25% speed improvement. When you have 2 trait points to spend, you can also get 25% speed improvement in Blood Magic by wielding two daggers.

I would add Bone Fiend to the useful minion group because its attacks are ranged, powerful, and the minion will get all the aggro and end up tanking for you until it dies.

If you have the deluxe edition, you should get Mistfire Wolf for an elite at L30. It will be the only elite you can afford (it is unlocked already) and does good damage and is on a short cool down. Use it if you have it until you can afford another elite.

np I wouldnt recommend listening to the other posts. another great tip for you would be to slot bloodlust sigils in all of your weapons (and air, you can have 2 sigils per weapon set, so for example if you use dagger, warhorn and focus, slot bloodlust sigil on your dagger, and give air sigils for the offhands (you dont need 2 daggers) it helps with leveling. stat priority is power>precision>ferocity (on lvl 80 you want assassin armor pieces and berserker weapons and trinkets, runes of scholar, saying in advance). necromancer has biggest hp pool in the game so don’t worry about soaking damage, especially in open world pve where mobs are weak, though it would help you to dodge their attacks even if they do nothing – this will make you ready for high level content, reflexes etc. dodging is most important later on.
at 80 lvl sigils change to force sigil + night/undead slaying/justice/frailty/energy sigils
basically look over here, it’s very helpful: http://dulfy.net/2014/06/30/gw2-necromancer-pve-guide-by-spoj/
