It makes sense why it could be a lingering effect. However, its probably too ingrained balanced wise to not allow healing while in death shroud, because itd probably make us ‘too’ tanky for the devs and we’d probably get nerfed again.
Practical solution. Don’t stay in death shroud long. Either stay in shroud to block a burst, or gap close, or insta fear, or the AOE channel and then drop out. Using DS1 is a waste of time and DPS AND life force, and you lose all pressure when you use it. Not to mention it gets dodged a lot.
If they made it so I can pop in shroud, shoot a DS1 and drop out, I’d totally do it. But currently it fires WAY too slow for it to be worthwhile.
There’s still builds where you can stay in DS for long, and even regenerate enough lifeforce in between to stay in it. And DS #1 on some Power build is really good pressure.
You should be able to gain health while transformed (because they try to bring DS up to other transformation), the healing could even be applied on the lifeforce, I wouldn’t mind, but saying “Ok guys wait for me to get out of DS before doing your combos in Water field” is out of this world. No other mechanics in the game punishes the player that use it like DS does for us. Even a trait line for healing on Hit/Crit/Minions is wasted when using it. Imagine what Lifetransfer could do if it would heal us. Now that 25 health per hit wouldn’t seem that bad.

Allowing healing while in DS is a very dangerous prospect. There are already Necromancer builds using high healing to regen HP very well. Including it in DS brings it into dangerous territory with all the healing we see come off from guardians and eles. Not saying its impossible, and it definitely should be looked at, but I don’t see it happening.
I’d much rather they first fix DS so my team stops freaking out (every necro thats run in coordinated groups is used to the scared shouts when they see you instantly “drop low” because you jumped into 10% LF while high on HP). And I’d like to see them revamp siphoning.
Hehe it’s true that anyone grouping with a necro always say “Whoa you sure you’re doing great?” And I agree about siphoning, I think it would be easier to balance it if you could decide as a player to invest or not in healing power.
It’s only dangerous for those who think we can be up to par with healing spec like the guardian, Ele and Ranger. If healing is the problem, just move numbers a bit concerning healing, don’t remove us from the equation.

The problem with DS isn’t actually our own healing, if only our own healing was allowed then I don’t see it being OP at all, although very strong in certain builds. The problem is what if you are sitting in a team with a guardian and an ele. Now the ele’s water attunement splashing around is going to be filling you up to full while you are temporarily immune to damage. The guardian is going to heal you up quite nicely while you are sitting immune. And this is in addition to your own personal healing which will be topping you off.
You could run a 0/0/10/30/30 build (just an example) and have perma regen, siphoning on hit/crit/wells plus make it 50% better, run dagger + something/staff, and soul marks, and you are going to be not just gaining LF like crazy to tank through damage, but every time you pop DS you are going to come out pretty healthy again, so not only did they waste damage hitting you in DS, but they are actually forced to burn you out of DS or you will come out with full HP.
Again it should be looked at, but it’s a dangerous path. It is similar to why we were crazy in beta.
Leave it unhealable but make it give you 50% of your health on coming out or it, then it could be used as an emergency heal and you wouldn’t need to rely on other people healing you while you’re in death shroud.

this second page is partially a discussion about in-DS-healing.
i still think it should be changed. at least lifesteal should work; combined with life transfer, the amount of stolen HP could become pretty high.
necros still lack sustain and allowing healing while in DS to a certain degree could help a lot in this regard. and i would rather have that than just more life force generation slapped on everything.
