I just got a bunch of rabid armor from the Karma vendors in Orr because I wanted to run some necro/reaper condi builds, recently got to 80. Every build I see though for condi is some sinister/viper set. Anyone have ideas or experiences with builds that makes good use of rabid stats? If so please link to build!

Also related, ultimately would the rabid stats be viable for higher level fractals and such? Or is it all sinister/viper all the time?

in this game, in almost any scenario in PVE its Damage>Tanky, Sinister and viper are damage focused, while rabid is more tanky

During beta weekend raid playing, I was playing around with a curses death reaper tank condi build. You use rune of undead and rise to get yourself maximum toughness. This toughness converts into condition damage nicely, and you can control agro even past engineer levels while sacrificing little damage. I also took a minute to die after the boss went enraged so….

Of course, short of being the designated tank, Sinister is the way to go. (use rune of thorns and cpc for stupid condition damage)

Here’s a Condi Reaper build close to what I’ve been toying with recently: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQNArYWn0ICd3gN3AW2A0bilgBLuIuEjiUVhpwvKKBEAiAA-TBSAwAYUCKU9HKnCAIm/mpPAwTAo3+DRV+BA-e

You could fiddle with a lot of bits but I’ve been very happy with how strong the Condi reaper is regardless of specifics.

For the base necro, try this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQNArYWn0ICd3gN3AW2As3gjdhCG1JQAQDjvYZjVQD0BA-TBSAwAYUCKU9HKnCAIm/mpPAwTAo3+DRV+BA-e

Or if you want more tankiness, this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQNArYWn0ICd3gN3AW2As3gjghS20L9TTrit4XjJQAEBA-TBSAwAYUCKU9HKnCAIm/mpPAwTAo3+DRV+BA-e

A big weakness those builds all have is a lack of Steanbreakers. If you find you’re getting in trouble, feel free to swap out Corrosive Poison Cloud for any of our stunbreak Utilities, or run Foot in the Grave instead of Dhuumfire. Also, Epidemic is pointless against single-target foes, so if you’re fighting down just a champion, change it for literally anything else (Blood is Power is a good all-purpose utility if you don’t know what else to take, as is Signet of Spite).

Another point: this build already has two strong Condi cleanse abilities (Dagger 4 and Staff 4), but if you find you need more, go ahead and switch to Consume Conditions. It’s a really strong heal skill, though personally I find it kinda overkill. It’s also kinda nice having an extra damage skill on your 6.

Finally, don’t be afraid to experiment! Don’t slap one of these builds on yourself and then never look at it again. It’s important to find the skills, traits, and items that you yourself have the most fun using and suit your playstyle the best. It’s also important to pick the traits and utilities most appropriate for a given fight. I’m constantly fiddling with my build out in the field. This won’t only help keep you more effective but it’s more fun, too! Who wants to do the exact same thing for 200 hours?

EDIT: As for Fractals, I suspect straight damage is always going to rule the day there under the current paradigm. It would take something much more significant than higher Toughness values to change that. As such, Rabid probably isn’t ideal for high-level Fractals, but at the same time it will be perfectly serviceable until around when you’ll need to upgrade to Ascended armor.

I main Ele and Necro, though I have an alt of each profession at level 80.

Everything I say is only in reference to PvE and WvW.
