I’m really trying to find a way to make necro work in Tpvp. Of course, any role I try to fill is done better by someone else. I know some folks will argue but its time to face the facts.
Bunker-guard, ranger, engi, and to an extent, elese do it better.
Condis-engi is better by leaps and bounds, rangers are high up there too (can’t just dodge roll through traps to negate completely)
Burst-thieves, warriors, engis, rangers, Mesmer
Utility-mesmer, engi, guard, ele
Now I know I’m downing the class. All of what I’ve said is true though. The sad part is, I absolutely love this class, what it COULD be. Utilities cooldowns are too long, traits don’t make any sense most of the time/wrong placement. Staff cooldowns just a tad too long.
I’m really hoping we get some changes soon. I dont want to be OP at all. I just would like to have a niche to fill besides our rez signet and epidemics that rarely spread more than a 3 stack of bleeds or so due to every class having multiple cleanses. Besides warriors. They need a little help too.
tl;dr- I love this class. Just can’t seem to make it work in Tpvp. Hope we get love soon.

I`d start by reading the necro forums and continue with removing my thread (if I were you).
If you’re referring to DS5, I highly doubt 1 ability is going to fix the class. Everything else on this forum is either complaints or ideas too. I don’t see what your reply is referencing. By all means, do tell.

The key to finding a place for Necro is making a strong build with a good niche, and then forcing that niche to work by building a team around it. For example MMs with AoE buffs, Condi necros with other condi classes, Power Necros with the right team support, etc. The problem is we can’t just copypasta into a comp, you need to tailor it.
I think Im at around 800 rating don’t really do much Tpvp these days, but I keep that rating just playing Necro and got there with necro the huge majority solo queue.
If you really are dedicated to Necro send a tell ill give you two builds.
However I recommend putting effort into learning another class if climbing the Tpvp ratings is really something you want to do.
climbing the ladder isn’t what I’m interested in. as I said, I love the class and in certain situations (when the stars align just right) I can pull off some clutch plays that make my team go nuts over skype. I’m just frustrated with some aspects of the class that seem severely lacking that with tweaking, could bring us up to serious competitive play.
I’ll go over the builds I’ve tried thoroughly
wellomancer-fun, good damage, really long cooldowns for something folks can just stand out of. and yeah, folks will burn a cleanse to get out of D3.
standard condi-decent condi pressure but I go against so many classes that in some way or another cleanse off our small number of individual conditions. on my engi I can spam so many condis so fast I rarely see all of them cleansed which allows for higher uptime.
MM and variants- I’ve had the most luck with a 20-0-20-30-0 build. its fun, tanky, and you can just keep going and going. But…theres always that one mesmer with moa…or the whirling blades, or anything else that kills most of my minions even with the %health trait.
I love the necro, I really do. I’m gonna pm you guys in game and hope I can be shown that thing that I have to be over looking. kinda like when you look all over the house for your keys and then your wife points at the coffee table and there they are, sitting out in the open. thanks guys
Necros will be getting some love after this next bug fix patch. Sucks having to wait another month, but its better than never. At least we were acknowledged.
Necro is probably tier 1 on tpvp, with engie. Ranger is a tier of it’s own but kindda FOTM so we’ll see… (feature of the month, not fractals of the mists haha).
I’m playing with a mix fear/chill build in tpvp and doing very well in randomn match.
After that i don’t know how it’s efficient in very competitive match, but i find myself very usefull at disabeling other player capacity to play making them cheap target for my team (especially DD elem and tanky guardian they become really less survivable when i take care of them ), while making a fair amount of damage over time.
Try to dodge moa or use monk runes with charge very lucky xD

It should have an animation like Dark Pact … something you can actually see..
Honestly, if someone is wasting Moa on an MM, all the more power to them. Its not that great of a use of the ability unless you are relying on Flesh Wurm to get back to defend back point or something. Otherwise you should be more than able to get out of the fight alive (even Guardians can do it with half your HP), and then with Minion CDR, your non-elites will be up within 20 seconds of coming out of the morph. Its annoying, but its not a good use of the ability.

1v1 its fine, but it doesn’t put much more pressure on an MM than it does on another class; we have relatively small CDs. Everyone has to run away after that, but I’d be interested to know how you kill someone with 3k armor and 27k HP in the time that Moa takes 1v1. Look at the players in the tournaments recently, even a guardian with half our HP can get out.
Sure, the cap gets neuted, but they can only use it 4 times per game, and that is a very significant loss in teamfight ability if they go around using it just to get a neut in a 1v1.

Coordinated with your team 1 Mesmer + 1 Thief can absolutely destroy a Moa’ed target pretty much instantly and there’s really nothing you can do about it. That said it’s not the easiest to coordinate in a hectic fight. Regardless, it’s pretty stupid how Moa makes all your minions die and should be changed.
I’m not sure that they don’t need to die, it really makes it so that MMs are pretty much immune to Moa overall. I would like if they removed the CD however (so they were up right away after coming out). That way Moa still hurts, and its still a shutdown, but it doesn’t put everything on CD (imagine if every utility went on full CD in any other build).
And I’m not saying you can’t destroy someone in a fight with moa, but an MM is not the target you’d want to blow that on in a team fight, they are going to require the most CDs and have the lowest teamfight impact considering how much its going to cost you; compared to a Guardian who will take similar CDs to kill, but is much more impactful, or a glass who will just drop. 1v1 however, you aren’t killing an MM with Moa unless they get outplayed.

The role of a MM is to close point protect so 1 v 1 winning and 1 v 2 lasting is important, its a fill in for the close point ranger mes or eng the job is to also go mid and back again. Moa on a MM might not result in death inside the moa but it puts pets on cooldown you will die soon after that if the mes is not kittened bad, yeah you can run but then you just totally failed your team, better to hold out and hope help can get there…. but a close point defender that cant win the 1 v 1 fights all the time is not good.
Anyway you can do ok with a necro its just not ideal, if you want to do ok with a necro most the builds people post here are not good, in fact they are outright bad.
/shrug Thats all the necro forums posting I can handle for a few weeks offers stands send me if you want a viable build or dont.
In a team fight no, because MM’s aren’t great in team fights to being with. But a coordinated Moa on a MM necro who is bunkering a side point would be a very viable target to obliterate in a second to get the immediate neutralize/cap of that point.
I still don’t see the reason why transforms should kill minions however. It does not seem like it would be imbalanced in any way if it were changed considering MM’s are non-existent in high level tPvP.

Best niche I found to the necromancer is to kill bunker guardians,
Besides that, the necromancer has nothing to offer… sad but true,
You can be as positive as you want, I play necro since the first beta, I’m level 32 at Spvp, I played hundred of tournaments and I can assure you, there’s no reason to bring a necro in the current state of the game,
Mention whatever rol you want and I’ll tell you a class who can perform better at it,
Maybe we are decent to destroy enemies trebuchets, we are great at defending underwaters points and as I said we excel at killing guardians,

Heh. Even Khalifa will tell you that you can’t really run that effectively without a solid team. That build is nice on a good team, but there are better bursters out there. The quickness nerf actually hurt it quite a bit too. Just like everything else Necro can do if you build your team around it you can make it work.
Most teams won’t invest that much effort to make it work. They’ll just take a shatter mes, D/P thief or whatever else is easy to come by. Both of which, by the way, have superior burst on shorter CD combined with better survivability and mobility. When you consider that Thieves have Shadow Refuge and Mesmer has Illusion of Life even the argument to bring the Necro for rez is kinda weak.
Our rez still has a place, as it is a hard rez, unlike Illusion of Life which gives Vengeance, or Shadow Refuge which can get AoE bombed.

Yes agree but I still think necros can bring stuff to the table.
