Ever since day 1 I wanted to make a necro similar to that of Diablo 2. An army by my side destroying everything in our oath. I know minions are sub par and the AI sucks. But can anyone who has spent time in the BWEs tell me if they think there is a viable reaper minion build? Doesn’t need to be meta or the best, just not complete kitten.
Things that you might want to change:
- Use Chilling Victory instead of Soul Eater as your Reaper master trait.
- Use Reaper’s Unslaught instead of Blighter’s Boon as your Reaper grandmaster trait.
- Use Lich Form (for Mark of Horror) instead of Flesh Golem as your elite skill.
- Use Magi’s stats or Zealot’s stats instead of Cleric’s stats.
Minion AI was upgraded a couple patches back. Works much better than in the past.
Personally, here’s the trait setup I use and what I am currently using gear-wise. Anything that is blank is because I have not settled. The Runes will probably change as I think now there may be better choices.
The Master and Grandmaster in the Reaper line could change…still working that part out.
This is just an idea to start…I look forward to seeing others thoughts and ideas on this. This is for PvE…and only in WvW when you are part of a larger group. It doesn’t have the DPS output to be a good solo roamer or anything.

Minion AI was improved.
Also, are you in PvE/WvW/PvP? Makes a huge difference in the build you should run.
For PvE basically just stick as much damage onto the build as you can with two trait lines, add on Death Magic and minion related traits therein, and throw minions on the bar. It doesn’t really benefit you to build “around” them in PvE like it does in PvP. For WvW roaming you’d want to take a fairly standard Cleric MM but probably without Flesh Wurm and with Quickening Thirst, since it is mostly the same as PvP but without the cap points.
minios are the only utilities that do damage in RS, took the ranged mininos so they have bigger chance to stay alive.
why soldier gear ? for the power, just pop RS and you get 4k power with 25 might.
may not be optimal but hey is pve. try fun things.
edit: aah yes i take 10 sec to fill 50% of your LF, so pop out before 50% so you dont miss the 5% extra damage., switch to dagger warhorn, locust+aa, swap to gs, death spiral , and back to rs aa. the spectral grasp is for the “oh kitten, need more lf” moments
