Reaper from an Outsiders PoV

Welcome to the party
And yup Reaper changes how you play the necro class completely. They’re just so fun & engaging.
Completely agree, necromancer was my least played class the entire 3 years i’ve been playing, wasn’t a fan of it, only dabbled in it when it came to be required for the PvP daily and felt like switching things up a bit.
Then i started trying out a Sinister build roughly 2-3 weeks before HoT launched and i fell in love.
HoT launched, I unlocked reaper, the only thing that happened was my built just became stronger, and when i finally get around to doing CM so i can grab another 6 runes of aristocracy so i can grab the viper set, I’ll only be putting out even more damage.
Don’t get me started on the minion changes either, those things are amazing now! Actually worth slotting occasionally in pve!
Rob and the team really outdid themselves with the Reaper, probably the best designed elite spec so far.

Yeah Reaper’s great when you start getting used to it.
It looks cool and has decent effects. And I think people really do underestimate the value of chill in a longer fight.
While the attacks do take longer, they’re worth it.
Pairing it with a Flesh Golem is great.
That’s odd because before Necro was a short range melee brawler with a focus on AoE and it’s been replaced by the revolutionary new Reaper who is a short range melee brawler with a focus on AoE.

Your generalizing is showing to the point where I think it is illegal in at least a few states.
@OP: I agree and am enjoying Reaper thoroughly so far.
“He’s like a man with a fork in a world of soup.”

You forget that base necro is awful in midfights (well, maybe not awful, but not very effective, either) and is much better on a side point, whereas Reaper thrives in team fights (especially if you use shouts)

Well, thrived. With the Blighter’s Boon nerf, not so much. Great on the offense for teamfights and they scale really well there, but now survival is difficult.

Death Magic builds would still be decent though, yes?

I still do pretty great using blighters boon. I seriously heal 600 hp/sec in shroud under certain conditions. With no healing power invested at all.
I’m on the same boat where I main warrior and I played me to here and there but not much, but the way I’m playing with reaper now is how I feel berserker should’ve been, I got my gs and staff to build up my reaper, then go apekitten on my target when i pop the reaper shroud. I didn’t expect to enjoy the reaper this much, but kitten it’s fun, I can’t wait till I unlock the entire tree and finally hop into wvw

Sigils of strength?
I’ve been trying them with blighter’s boon, that extra 1 might/second is basically like having perma regeneration while in shroud.

As a long time ranger main, reaper is everything I wish druid could have been (in how it interacts with the other class mechanics— not in exact function). I’ve swapped to my necro after fully unlocking druid and I am having about 100% more fun. I’m not sure if its the most efficient thing ever (then again, i’m running a power build and condition seems to be meta for them), but everything about the specialization seems really entertaining. Druid feels too restrictive— just taking it at all feels like your damage goes to crap and the heals frankly aren’t necessary for 95% of the games content (and we have yet to determine if they are going to be mandatory for raids either).
Reaper just feels pretty well thought out. I’d be much obliged if someone could message me some info on which of the utility skills work best; I’ve mostly been using the shout heal, “You are all weaklings”, “suffer!” and then alternating the last skill between shadow minion, the movement speed boosting life steal sig, the movement speed green glowy move that generates shroud, and the spectral armor for the last one.
(holy run on sentence batman… sorry when I get excited I tend to keep rambling)
P.S.: I have had the necro for some time, but did not really enjoy the class prior to HoT & the 95% damage reduction to pets.
P.P.S: … Now I just need to get those bag slots for my reaper… 100 slots total sucks haha.

Rune of strength+Infusing Terror+Shroud skill 1+Chilling Victory.
