PREFACE This post is in regards to solo/group, open world, HoT, PvE content /PREFACE

I originally started playing GW2 upon release. My first character was an Engineer which I enjoyed for quite some time. I was ignorant to the capabilities of other classes but enjoyed the play-style and flexibility of the Engineer.

My next character was a Mesmer, which I also enjoyed greatly. Compared to my Engineer I felt so powerful (once I reached the later levels), tearing through solo PvE content in Orr with ease (lol).

I’ve since leveled a Guardian, Thief, Revenant, Necromancer, and Ranger to level 80 and unlocked their respective elite specs.

The problem is, after playing Reaper, all my other characters seem to pale in comparison! With Reaper I can solo most HoT champs while doing ~5K – ~7K DPS. And although I love playing Reaper, sometimes I want to switch it up and play other classes, which usually leads to me dying a lot, getting frustrated, then coming back to play Reaper.

My question is, has anyone else had a similar experience?

Does anyone have any suggestions for classes/specs that are both fun and comparable to Reaper in damage and survivability?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

To answer your question, though, it’s been too long since I’ve actually felt that same feeling, but I know it’s there because other classes always seem lackluster to me. Then again, the vast, vast majority of my time in game has been on a necro/reaper, so I’m incredibly biased. That being said, I still think necro/reaper is more survivable in general HoT/PvE content than any other class. So I’m not sure you’re going to find anything better in that sense. Damage…. Well. Pick a class, basically

Strange forum bug.
Post showed up as 8 months old when I wasn’t logged in and now shows up as “about 8 hours ago”. 8 months would feel much more in line with what the OP says.

Closest I’ve found is Engineer, Druid, and Warrior. Invigorating Precision Thief can be very good, with Staff or Sword/Pistol, you just regen health so fast, but you lack the ability to take a high damage hit with the low base hp pool, but you have plenty of evades and potential blinds.

Engineer you have Scrapper with the hammer which has an evade (tricky as it’s animation locks you in longer than the evade so use with caution), a solid block, and a reflect. Then you have some other tools, like… toolkit with it’s block. But, mainly Blinds, and blinds and more of them which are good agaisnt anything that either doesn’t rapidly strike you, or doesn’t ignore it. In the end I have no problem on my Engi’s but then again they’re my main profession so I just feel comfortable. Also they have some great healing with HT and water field blasts.

Druid, you have CA form to bounce you right back to full health when you get down. You have access to other survival skills and pets holding agro can pull the pressure off you.

Warrior of course being just a meatshield, but it lacks the recovery without great losses to damage output. Which is why it’s still behind Necro/reaper just like all the rest of these.

Reaper is just impossible to compete with in your more general day to day PVE.

When i first leveled a necro, (after HoT dropped), I was amazed at how well I was doing with the class at melee range (a range i didn’t expect to be good at), and with no minions (It’s an rp character and will never use minions). I ripped through enemies like crazy. AND THAT WAS BEFORE I UNLOCKED REAPER!

I still have the character, and he is my bruiser. I take him in when I just want to decimate everything in my path. I completely understand OP.

And at least for me, that feeling has not changed with any of the patches. (I still play my other characters, just depends on my mood on what I feel like playing.)

Oh yeah I can relate with this. My first character, back when GW2 got released was necro. It was in terrible state back then(everyone used to play warr) so I decided to re roll into Warrior. I tried every class but necro was one of the most enjoyable among all. I find my charrior(which is geared af n looks like richest cat in the game) very boring to play.

As alternative to reaper, I recommend Revenant. Its kit might be unfinished, but idea behind it is fun and staff skills are reminding of reaper shroud skills. On top of that rev is close combat class.

It is good at melee, but I will say I see a lot of hammers flying through the air whenever a rev is around….
