Hey Everyone,
Generally I am not the type to post on forums, but do tend to browser them from time to time. My gut feeling is that while Necromancers are not Meta in the PVE side of things, they do have the uses and most off all they are really fun to play in my opinion.
Playing the Soul Reaper Beta this weekend, all I can say is that I think sometimes we could be far more constructive in ways that the present the limitations of the Necromancer, but more encouraging on what is working well. We rarely applaud the developers on what they do and with Soul Reaper at it’s current point I feel maybe over due seeing the junk people are posting.
GS maybe slow but it hits hard.. Anet have been very clear about this, and it’s not we can’t move while casting many of the spells. For me just off the top of my head we gained the following:
1/ Chain Chill with AA, but further with shouts and weapon skills.
2/ More Might stacking! (Easily hitting 25 stacks)
3/ Stability in Elite Skill without shift form and in Reaper Shroud!
4/ Whirl Combo on GS skill 2. Nice with RS 5 for more chill.
I mean the damage of hitting 10-17k, melting the faces of mobs and people are complaining about DPS.. With what I have pointed out it looks to me like the developers have listened to what people are saying and have made an big effort. Playing a few classes on the beta, Necro is in a good place compared to some of the others IMHO; feeling like tuning of skills would only need to be minor tweaks here and there with further help. The uptime in Reaper Shroud seems quite easy to maintain even in Zerk gear, and Axe Focus secondary weapons.
The shouts I would have like to see some ally buffing, but lets all be honest, Anet have been clear that Necro is just about condition controls despite it not being really wanted in PVE. This may change though with coming content and the introduction of more conditions. Who knows? All aside I love the class and it will always be my main. I stand by the strength of Necros, and GS plays to them perfectly.
Just remember mains who you play all the time you will always be strong in, and not to be to quick to judge. I know this because when I play sometime like a Mesmer as an Alt, I am awful with low cognitive responses. It takes time to get used to a character and sometime it’s not the role, spec, or gear; but rather you need to play it a bit more.
ANet, bloody well done on the GS. Keep up the good work!
Sadamin
