For those of you who have tried out the reaper, what are the advantages and disadvantages between the condi and power reaper builds? I’d like to start buying gear but I’d like more information first. I’m going to be doing a lot of WvW, small and large scale.

I played both builds and what i can tell you is entirely my own opinion. So others may have different opinions, okay?

Power reaper is strong, i think its even stronger than condition, damage wise. Its very tanky and sustain in SHroud, but outside shroud your defense is still low, so you’ll be taking lots of damage, specially if focused.

As condition reaper, you have the same tankiness in shroud and outside of shroud you keep tanky, different from power build. Your damage is slower but very consistent.
As condi reaper i was able to 1v4 sometimes in BWE2 and as power reaper i was able to kill people in 3 or 4 seconds.

So its up to you.

I mainly play condi but i have tried power aswell

Condition build Reaper:

It does depend on how you tend to built your build but in general I guess

Advantage:
Auto Attack + Dhuumfire = Strong (RS, AA is fast therefore can stack burn better than DS, AA)
Gap closer
Can have permanent stability while you’re in ReaperShroud. (Sure Stomp)
AOE Fear (360 radius) Good for CC or AOE interrupt.
Stun + AOE chill (snare + damage)
Can stack poison easily with Soul Spiral (as long as you hit)
Chill condi can hit hard, if the opponents health is 50% or less, Chill ticks are stronger so long as you’re traited to Deathly chill.

Disadvantage:
AA is Melee
Doom is more single target focus (interrupting heals at range (1,200 range))
you lose dark path which gives 3 stacks of bleed and chill (plus longer gap closer (1,200 range))
Tainted Shackles = AOE torment + Immobolize

Power Builds:

Advantage:
Nice single target and AOe Damage! (imo)
Fast AA + Melee. I think it’s better than using lifeblast
Stability during RS + AOE Fear
With Blighters Boon you can have a good upkeep for your RS meaning you can prolong your time in RS.
Big Damage + Stun with Executioner’s Scythe.

Disadvantage:
I’m still not sure about the disadvantage since i don’t really play power

So from the looks of it, if I want to use the great-sword a power build would be preferred. Does the chill from the great-sword abilities not translate well into a condi build?

I prefer Power necro and I love the addition of Reaper as Power Built. I really never went back to Condi after the Terrormancer was king of the Hill a year back or so, made 1v1’s without any real challenge maybe its diffrent now idk.

Power Reaper have more burst and more important alot more Cleave then current necro, specially with the addition of GS ( the GS weapon itself I see more or less as Power based only).

Condi Necro still imho rains supreme among the necro speccs tho Reaper after 2 BWE feels like it brings Power Necro abit closer to its Condi cousin. Something I waited for a long long time to see. As a mainly Solo Roamer Id say going Condi as Necro is around 8/10 who does maybe with Reaper it be 6/10 Condi.

Condi Reaper isn’t a thing. With the awful scaling on scepter conditions, you have no business going conditions. Use Celestial amulet at most. Seriously, the condition damage scaling on all conditions except for burning is so low that it almost doesnt matter.

(Or even take Dhuumfire with Berzerker amulet because that’s a DPS boost and call yourself Condi if you must)

That said, the one OP thing that a Reaper can do is RS 4 in a Fire Field (elementalist level burn stacking).

Yeah, greatsword is a power based weapon. Is not a good use for a condi build.
The chill from greatsword is more of an utility, providing life force via traits and slowing your enemies so you keep them close for the big hits.

i play both power and condi in tpvp (not wvw)
the power build need good support from his team as he can do huge dmg single and aoe dmg but while out of RS he is very squishy so you want to be able to build life force fast
if you see below 50% enemy and he on melee range most of the time he will be dead unless he manage to escape. but dont try 1v2
condi reaper also nice only because you can stack burning faster up to 6 stacks for 2k dps . but as for now condi necro are not the thing

thus i went to hybrid reaper both with condi and direct dmg. i tried celestial and carrion. with celestial its more like the cele signet build but more powerful in melee range and carrion is much stronger than the condi with both condi dmg and direct dmg which sometime does better dmg than the power ones. but again depend on the cleanse the enemy has.

also tried mm reaper and its nice

so i say go power than hybrid

I went might/spectral/celestial in PvP and loved it it felt like cele/signet with more mobility. The main source of damage is direct but you get a lot of condition damage from all the whirl finishers. It is basically a Hybrid build.

100% biased here…. POWER REAPER IS DA kitten!
